[NEohioPAL] CPT partners with the Cleveland Public Library to host event with playwright of The Aperture

Join Cleveland Public Theatre and Cleveland Public Library for a special
event in conjunction with CPT's World Premiere presentation of The
Aperture. This Saturday, March 7th at 2:00pm, Cleveland Public Library
will host a conversation with playwright Sean Christopher Lewis and
director Craig J. George. Actors Heather Anderson Boll and Isaiah Isaac
will also present a scene from the play.

The Aperture takes audiences on a wild journey that explores America's
fetishizing of global turbulence, violence and race. The Aperture
follows the story of a beautiful American photographer and her unlikely
subject, a former boy soldier from Africa. In this world premiere
production, two actors play six parts in an energetic and insightful
expose. The Aperture is onstage in the James Levin Theatre from March 13
- March 28 (Paid Preview March 13,  Opening Night March 14). For more

About the Playwright: 

SEAN CHRISTOPHER LEWIS is the inaugural recipient of the Rosa Parks
Award for Social Justice in Playwriting from the Kennedy Center. A
former NNPN Emerging Playwright in Residence at InterAct Theatre in
Philadelphia, he has toured his critically lauded solo shows I WILL MAKE
YOU ORPHANS (Uno Festival of Solo Performance, Available Light 01
Festival, Equinox Theatre, Riverside Theatre, Center for Independent
Artists, Galapagos Art Space, Hyde Park Theatre, TIXE Arts Center,
Bowery Poetry Club) and THE GONE CHAIR (Penn State University's Cultural
Conversations Festival, Openstage Harrisburg's Flying Solo Festival,
Riverside Theatre).

 

His other plays include MILITANT LANGUAGE (National Premiere at Know
Theatre of Cincinnati, Halcyon Theatre of Chicago, Bang and Clatter in
Cleveland and Theater for the New City in NY) and THE APERTURE
(Cleveland Public Theatre). He has been a playwriting fellow at the
O'Neill Playwrights Conference and has had his work developed at the
PlayPenn New Play Conference, Lark New Play Development Center, Orlando
Shakespeare Festival's Harriet Lake Festival of New Work and at the
National Center for New Plays at Stanford University.

 

About the Director:
CRAIG J. GEORGE: Directing credits include: Off-Broadway: Taming of the
Shrew (The Duke on 42nd Street). Regional: M4M (Cleveland Public
Theatre); Alfred Kinsey: A Love Story (Michael Weller Theater, NYC);
Twelfth Night; Much Ado About Nothing (Hamptons Shakespeare Festival);
Macbeth (Harold Clurman Theater, NYC), The Higher Education of Khalid
Amir (Midtown International Theater Festival, NYC).  Currently in
development: American Pastime (the Curt Flood story), Lighter (a new
Broadway musical-satire about the diet industry), Tower Five (by Iraqi
war veteran Michael Reyes).  Other theaters worked at include South
Coast Repertory, George Street Playhouse and Penguin Repertory. MFA from
UC Irvine and member of AEA and SSDC.
