Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead opens Thursday in Sandefur Theatre, Guzzetta Hall at the University of Akron. The play is billed as an “Unauthorized Parody” of one of America’s favorite comic strips.

Dog Sees God centers around CB who recently lost his beloved beagle to rabies. This death sends CB on a quest for answers—particularly “what happens to pets when they die?” He attempts to find solace in his friends, but they are either too stoned, too drunk or too self-absorbed to be of any help.

It’s only when he investigates a sad song coming from the music room at school that he begins to find closure. It comes in the shape of an artistic kid (Beethoven) who is the target of vicious bullying. CB and Beethoven connect in a way that has explosive results.

The cast is made up of University of Akron students and includes Joshua Davis (CB), Jeffrey Klemm (Beethoven), Toni Clair (CB’s Sister), Jesse Pine (Van), India Burton (Van’s Sister), Tiffany Johnson (Tricia), Antonia Villalon (Marcy) and Robert Samuel Grant, III (Matt). The show is directed by Benjamin Rexroad and Stage Managed/Choreographed by Jessica Lee.

Dog Sees God is intended for Mature Audiences and not for those easily offended. The play is being produced as part of Theatre Guild’s 2008-2009 season. It runs Thursday-Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm. Tickets are $5 for students, seniors and faculty and $8 for nonstudents.
