The North Coast Men's Chorus presents two song-filled concerts
featuring the greatest songs of Broadway, past and present, on April 4
and 5. Beautiful music, show-stopping dance numbers, and plenty of
laughs and tears are all part of what you'll experience when the
80-plus men of the chorus (and a few female guest artists) take the
stage at Waetjen Auditorium at Cleveland State University, 2001 Euclid
Avenue.
Now in their 21st season, the Chorus has shared the stage with notable
celebrities like Linda Eder, Michael Feinstein, Armistead Maupin, and
Broadway legend Bernadette Peters. Earlier this month, the Chorus was
a featured guest of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra when they presented a
concert featuring the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein at Severance
Hall.
ON WITH THE SHOW promises something for everyone, from classics like
/Oklahoma/ and /Carousel/ to recent hits from /Wicked, Jersey Boys,
/and /Mary Poppins/. Songs that you've heard before take on a new
meaning when sung by a gay men's chorus. "When we remove a song from
the context of the show, it is amazing to discover other ways to
interpret the lyrics," says Richard Cole, Music Director. "A very
simple song can turn into an anthem for acceptance and tolerance."
As with past concerts by NCMC, you're in for a real treat. There will
be over-the-top dance numbers, and this concert features a "unique"
take on /Nothing Like a Dame/ and a Busby Berkeley version of /Raining
In My Heart/. But the costuming and dancing are well balanced with
the beautiful music from arrangements like /Send in the Clowns/ and
/Feed the Birds/.
Pre-sale tickets are available at www.ncmchorus.org or by calling
216-556-0590 with prices ranging from $10 - $35. Tickets at the door
are slightly higher.
Tickets may also be purchased at Big Fun on Coventry, the
Borders-Westlake and at the door.
