Canton Comic Opera Company Announces Auditions for THE SULTAN OF SULU 
  
The Canton Comic Opera Company will be holding auditions for the 1902 operetta THE SULTAN OF SULU with music by Alfred Wathall and libretto by George Ade.  The auditions will be held by appointment only on Saturday, May 9, 2009 from 2-4 pm at the Canton Comic Opera Company’s Rehearsal Facility, 437 Market Avenue North in Downtown Canton, Ohio.  An accompanist will be provided. The Canton Comic Opera Company’s production of THE SULTAN OF SULU will be directed by Joseph N. Rubin and presented on July 18 & 19, 2009 at the Canton Jewish Community Center Auditorium.  A musical satire on American imperialism, THE SULTAN OF SULU was one of the most successful American operettas of its time.  The Canton Comic Opera Company’s production will mark the third time the operetta has been performed in Canton ; the most recent production was by the Canton Operatic Club at the Grand Opera House in 1922. 
  
The Canton Comic Opera Company is a non-profit theatre company, based in Canton , Ohio , dedicated to the preservation and performance of American operettas.  Founded and incorporated in 2003 by executive director, Joseph N. Rubin, the Canton Comic Opera Company is an all volunteer organization providing talented singers and musicians in the Northeastern Ohio community with the opportunity to perform in operetta productions.  The Canton Comic Opera Company is the only theatre company in the world dedicated solely to the performance of historic American operettas.
