In its 60-year history, the ever-evolving Juilliard String Quartet has
become a living American legend. Celebrate an historic landmark in the
Juilliards' history on April 22, when violinist Joel Smirnoff plays one of
his final performances with the quartet after more than two decades as a
member; he became a Greater Clevelander in 2008 after taking the helm as
president of the Cleveland Institute of Music. Second violinist Ronald Copes
graduated from Oberlin in 1971. The

the last performance in this year's Artist Recital Series.

The program is signature Juilliard String Quartet: classics combined with
exciting newer music. Hear quartets by Haydn and Beethoven alongside
Dutilleux's *Ainsi la Nuit,* a work commissioned and premiered by the
quartet some 30 years ago.
