Legendary band leader and NEA Jazz Master Roy Haynes is one of the most
recorded drummers in jazz - over the course of a 60-year career he's
played in a wide array of styles ranging from swing and bebop to jazz
fusion and avant garde.   Haynes has recorded or performed with the best
in the business, including Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Sarah Vaughn,
Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Chick Corea and Pat Metheny, among
others.  Though mostly self taught, he has a highly expressive style and
seemingly boundless energy (in the 1950's he was given the nickname
"Snap Crackle").  Haynes was inducted into the Down Beat Magazine Hall
of Fame in 2004.

National Endowment of the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
