Teen Summer Digital Film Experience

JUNE 22-27, 2009
This is our fifth year of the program that started at The College of Wooster. You can find more on our website http://ansleyvalentineproductions.com/digi_film_experience_at_oberlin_college

The Program
The
Summer Digital Film Experience introduces 13 to 18 year old beginning
and  advanced film writers, actors, directors and producers to the
independent film process. Using digital film technology, students will
take on some of the roles involved in the world of film production.
Rather than try to mimic Hollywood, we use an independent filmmaking
model—a process we hope the students can replicate when they make video
projects on their own. This year, we will offer an advanced program for
returning students or those with more experience. For all students, the
workshop begins with intensive script writing.

Working in
groups, students will develop 10-minute short scripts highlighting
strong storylines, believable characters and exciting dialogue.
Students will then “pitch” their scripts in a selection process. Chosen
scripts will be filmed, allowing students to experience acting,
directing and producing. Students will also serve as crew members, and
learn about digital video cameras, sound, editing, lighting, location
scouting, and other skills required to produce an independent short.
The schedule will vary based on the production and instructional needs
of the process. Days will include writing, filming and editing. Nights
will be free for film viewing, relaxation, or20filming scripts that
require a night location.

New this year: Acting for the Camera
All
students will also study acting for the camera. Our instructors will
introduce beginning and more advanced student actors to the skills
required when performing for a camera. These acting skills will be
showcased in a separate faculty-directed film.

Cost & Registration
$690
covers five nights of housing, all meals, insurance, instruction,
handouts, and the use of digital film equipment (cameras, lights,
etc.), and a DVD of all of the projects. Returning students receive a
$50 discount.A $250 non-refundable deposit must be paid by Monday, June
15. The remaining balance must be paid on or before the first day of
camp. Space permitting, students may register after June 15. All
students must provide a $25 cash key deposit at check-in, which will be
refunded at the conclusion of the program.

Who Can Attend
The
camp is intended for students age 13 to 18 who have an interest in
writing and/or creating film. No experience is necessary, but a serious
interest in the creative aspects of film is strongly recommended.

What To Bring
Students
should bring a laptop or desktop computer for screen writing. For those
without computers, a small computer lab will be available. Beyond basic
necessities (e.g. toothbrush, soap, clothes) students should bring bed
linens, and a 3-ring binder with notebook paper. If students have video
cameras, they are welcome to bring those as well.

Housing & Meals
Students
will be housed two to a room.
Men and women will be separated with
single-sex bathroom facilities. Students will have three meals per day.
We will eat with all-you-care-to-eat salad and hot buffet items.
