Summer Camps 2009

Hands On Theater (H.O.T.) Summer Camps engage students in acting, improvisation, staging, auditioning and technical theater. The class uses theater games to teach the fundamentals, and focuses on collaboratively creating a performance for the last day of class.

The Audition Workshop is an summer session for students age 10 to 14. This workshop will help students create an "audition package" for each student consisting of: a headshot, an acting resume, memorized audition piece selected from the following:  a dramatic monologue, comedic monologue, a classical monologue & a musical audition with steps.

  ** Special Workshops**
  The Advanced Audition Workshop is for students with previous theater experience, ages 13 to 18.  Former professional actress Harriet DeVeto  shares her experiences and insights into the audition process.  Emphasis in this class will be placed on selecting and performing monologues, cold-reading technique, what to do in a call-back and more.  A presentation of student work will be held at the end of camp.  Special exceptions may be made for younger students with the requisite experience.

  Students in the Character Workshop will focus on the understanding of creating a character -- creating a physical life, voices, understanding given circumstances in the world of the play and understanding how your character is different from you. Students will discover many ways a character can behave, think, feel, experience things and express themselves differently than the actor. Students will have the opportunity to apply these skills through scene work, which will be presented on the final day of class.

  Vocal Music Technique covers the fundamentals of vocal technique, and is suitable for beginners to intermediate singers. Specific topics include posture, breathing and support, eliminating muscular tension, resonance, and diction. Each student will apply these techniques through work on 2 vocal pieces, a musical theater number and a classical piece. Time is allotted for group exercises and voluntary solo singing.

    Summer Stock 2009
    Twelve Angry Jurors
    TWO ACTING SPOTS AND TWO TECH SPOTS LEFT!
    Summer Stock is a workshop designed for students who have already had some theatrical experience. Students will perform, produce and design a full production of Twelve Angry Jurors at the Paul A. Daum Theatre of The University of Akron. Performances will be held on August 7 & 8 at 7:00 p.m. Space is limited to 12 actors and 4 technical positions.
