[NEohioPAL] World famous swing dancers compete in Cleveland this weekend!

Saturday, June 13th come be entertained by amazing musicians, singers, and
dancers at the All Balboa Weekend at the Holiday Inn in Independence.

 

Balboa is a swing dance that originated in Southern California and was most
popular in the mid 1930s.  The All Balboa Weekend (ABW) is an annual event
where over 600 dancers from around the world (Sweden, France, Finland,
Germany, England, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, etc)
come to take classes, compete and social dance.  ABW was the first event
solely dedicated to the preservation of this vintage swing dance form.  ABW
is the biggest Balboa event in the world.  We have the most number of
attendees and competitors.  The finals of two major competitions are on
Saturday night.  The competitors you will see in the competition you will
have also seen on current TV commercials, movies and as performers and
instructors on the popular TV shows; "So You Think You Can Dance?" and
"Dancing With The Stars".  

 

We have a terrific band coming in from Pittsburgh called The Boilermaker
Jazz Band and they will be joined by three female vocalists.  Jennie Luvv
from Pittsburgh, Naomi Uyama from Washington, DC and Clevleand's own; Erin
Kufel.  Live music will begin at 9pm and go until 1am.  Social dancing to
DJed music will go into the wee hours of the morning.  The dance contests
are at 10pm and 11:30pm approximately.  

 

Tickets for this wonderful evening are $30 per person and may be purchased
at the door.  This is a dress to impress event and most ladies will be
wearing dresses or skirts and heels and men will have suits, jackets or
vests with ties.  Shoes with non-sticky soles are recommended.
