*The Life & Times of an American Ico**n*



The music and life of Nat “King” Cole are the subject of *Unforgettable*, a
bio-revue that will open *American Mirrors*, a summer festival of theater.
The show will have a preview performance on Friday, June 19th at 2:00
PMfollowed by the official opening on Friday evening at 8:00
PM at the Actors’ Summit theater in downtown Hudson. The show will have 25
performances and will run in repertory through July 26th as one of four
shows which make up *American Mirrors*.



An earlier production called “Nat King Cole & Friends” which ran in 2006 was
the highest attended show in the history of Actors’ Summit. The new script,
written by Artistic Director Neil Thackaberry, focuses on Cole’s family,
career, and his role in the expansion of civil rights in America.

*The Play*

*Nat “King” Cole is best known to the general public for the popular music
he sang from the 1940’s through the mid 1960’s. He is recognized as one of
the most accomplished and influential jazz pianists of his generation. *

* *

*Raised in Chicago, he was strongly influenced by that city’s jazz scene
which was populated with such luminaries as Earl Hines, Art Tatum, Louis
Armstrong, and Les Paul.*

* *

*His “signature” songs included “Unforgettable,” “Let There be Love,” “The
Christmas Song,” “Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer,” “Ramblin Rose,”
“Route 66,” and his own composition, “Straighten Up and Fly Right.”*

*Nat Cole achievements included being the first African American with a
weekly network radio show, and the first African American with a weekly
network television show.*

*The Actor*

Reggie Scott, a singer, actor, writer, director, and professional corporate
trainer, has an extensive background in the arts as well as corporate
America.   His theatrical career began at The Karamu House where he has
trained and performed under the legendary direction of Vinnette Carroll,
Tally Beatty and Mike Malone. He also studied at the Cleveland Music
Settlement. Reggie is also well known for his role as the Storyteller in *Black
Nativity*, a Cleveland Christmas tradition, and the Griot in the Cleveland
School of the Arts annual production of *The Coming of the King.*
Reggie recently
traveled to London, England performing with the BBC Orchestra and Stockholm,
Sweden with *The Glories of Gospel** *and *Langston *at the Lincoln Center
Theatre in New York. He has also appeared at the Playhouse Square Theatres,
The Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame and with The Cleveland Opera.  His recordings
include work with The Community Voices of Faith, Pastor Ron Williams, and
the Voices of Konionia. His screen credits include, Paul Simon’s *One Trick
Pony* and *Spiderman III.*

June 20 (2 & **8 PM**), June 21 (2 PM), June 26 (2 & **8 PM**), June 27 (2 &
**8 PM**), June 28 (2PM), July 2 (8 PM), July 3 (2 PM), July 5 (2 PM),July
11 (2 & **8 PM**), July 12 (2 PM), July 15 (2 & **8 PM**), July 16 (8 PM),
July 17 (2 & **8 PM**), July 23 (8 PM), July 24 (2 & **8 PM**), and July 26
(2 PM).*

**Preview tickets are $15. All seats on Fridays & Saturdays are $28.
Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday evening performances and all matinees are $25
for adults, and $22 for seniors over 60. All full-time students are admitted
for $7 at all performances. *
