 * *The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival Brings Free Shakespeare to New Venue

The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival will be performing both 'Antony and
Cleopatra' and 'A Winter's Tale' Sunday, July 5th, at the Brunswick
Recreation Center on Center Road. CSF has never before performed at this
venue, and they are both excited and proud to bring their productions to a
new community. 'Antony and Cleopatra' will begin at 2pm, followed by 'A
Winter's Tale' at 6pm. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs
or blankets and seat themselves prior to each outdoor performance. A rain
space has been secured, as at every venue, so that performances can proceed
rain or shine.

A Winter's Tale tells the story of a picture perfect family, torn to shreds
by inner demons, vices and tragedies one upon another’s heels. This seems a
strange foundation on which to build an uproariously broad comedy, but
Artistic Director Tyson D. Rand skillfully finds the delicate balance
between the dark and light elements of one of Shakespeare's “problem
plays”. Set in the 1950's and 60's, 'A Winter's Tale' is alternately
bittersweet and sweet and sour in a brilliant compromise between tragedy and
comedy.

Traveling in repertory with 'A Winter's Tale' is 'Antony and Cleopatra',
directed by Alison Garrigan, who brings her unique style to the stage in a
new approach to one of Shakespeare's great tragedies. In this production,
the hostile Roman takeover of Cleopatra's Egypt has been skillfully
translated into a modern business maneuver. Cultures clash when the
professional “Romans” encounter the exotic punk-rock world of the
“Egyptians”. Both 'Antony and Cleopatra' and 'A Winter's Tale' will be
presented on Saturdays and Sundays at various locations throughout Northeast
Ohio.

As always, CSF performances are free and open to the public. By bringing
Shakespeare into communities and offering performances free of charge, the
Cleveland Shakespeare Festival makes quality theater accessible to all. For
