Proudly Presents

A Young Actor Series Production

Madeline and the Gypsies

July 24 ~ August 9, 2009

By Barry Kornhauser
Music by Michael Koerner

Adapted from the book by Ludwig Bemelmans

A charming musical based on the beloved book by Ludwig Bemelmans. When Madeline and her friend, Pepito, get lost during a visit to the carnival and end up being carried away by gypsies, their rousing adventures with a traveling circus begin! But poor Miss Clavel won't rest until she has brought them safely home. This NEW musical bursts with daring circus acts, boisterous song and sweet silliness!

OUR DIRECTORS:

Sarah Bailey (Director and Choreographer ) is a graduate of Ohio Northern University and has her Masters in Music and Pedagogy from the prestigious Westminster Choir College. Sarah has sung onstage at Carnegie Hall with the New York Philharmonic and was a grand finalist at the Guangdong International Vocal Competition in China. She is directing her 9th production for Weathervane.

Kim Shama-Hanna (Musical Director) graduated Magna cum Laude from Kent State in music education. Being a music educator in the Akron Public Schools, she has been involved with musical performances for over 20 years. At only 17, she wrote and directed the music in a play called, "Boris's Christmas Revenge." She has written music for the "Ask Gilby" television show, and for Akron's All-City May Festival of Music, where she also plays in the orchestra. She has led her students to produce CDs to support victims of 9/11, to support animal care (Pet Guards), and to support our men and women in the armed forces. In the recording studio, Kim works as a composer, arranger, keyboardist and singer. She also directs the choir at her church, St. George. In community service, Kim was a co-coach of an OM team that took the State of Ohio Championship three years in a row, and also is a co-coach for Girl Scouts in Copley.
