convergence-continuum, continues its 2009 Season at the Liminis theatre
with a big summer extravaganza, Charles Mee’s madcap and provocative BIG
LOVE opening Friday, July 24.

Love, in all its many guises is up for grabs, as fifty brides (all
sisters), unwilling to accept their arranged marriages, flee their fifty
grooms (their cousins), running away from Greece and seeking refuge in a
villa on the coast of Italy in this zany modern re-make of one of the
western world's oldest comedies. And, at this coastal Italian villa, home
to a decidedly quirky assortment of characters, the fifty grooms catch up
with the brides, and mayhem ensues. Grooms arrive by helicopter in their
flight suits. Brides repeatedly throw themselves to the ground. There’s
skinny-dipping in the fountain, pop songs, a romantic waltz, a dance in
drag, and, finally, unable to escape their forced marriages, 49 of the
brides gleefully dispatch 49 of the grooms – and one bride falls in love.
About the same odds as today.

BIG LOVE is directed by convergence-continuum’s Artistic Director, Clyde
Simon. The on-stage cast of 12 (our largest ever) includes company
members Lucy Bredeson-Smith, Laurel Johnson, Geoffrey Hoffman, Stuart
Hoffman, Mark K, Lauren B. Smith, Tony Thai, Wes Shofner and Bobby

are also dozens of on-screen extras. The technical team includes five
videographers: Tom Kondilas, Noel Maitland, David Berry, Matthew T.
Denholm, and Jeremy Paul (who is also Sound Designer for the show).
