The Tri-C ArtsPrep Program

Fall 2009 Offerings

ArtsPrep Mission

The ArtsPrep Program of the Tri-C Division of Creative Arts provides a clear pathway to success through the arts for students of all ages. ArtsPrep offers an affordable and accessible training in the arts and assumes that all of its participants who remain in the program, regardless of artistic talent, will be fully prepared to enter the college of their choosing. By focusing on rigorous, professional training in the arts, ArtsPrep develops confidence, mastery of craft, a sense of belonging on a college campus and a strong expectation by students and their families that college is a necessary and expected next chapter of their lives.

ArtsPrep Vision

Every student in the ArtsPrep program will be challenged to do their best by a faculty of highly qualified teaching artists. All ArtsPrep faculty will have a performance degree in the discipline they teach, or have a long time professional career of distinction. All instruction, regardless of the age or experience of our students, will be of a college level quality tailored specifically to the needs of our students.

Over the course of five years, the ArtsPrep program will evolve into its complete form. As students progress through the program, offerings will be added to accommodate their needs as they develop into more advanced craftsmen in their disciplines. At any point in this evolution ArtsPrep program offerings will be added to meet the needs of our students as they arise. Our commitment is to develop our students into "competent craftsmen' who have the opportunity to fully realize their talent at whatever level they choose.

ArtsPrep Program Description

In each of the four disciplines of the ArtsPrep program, students will be provided with age-appropriate instruction of college level quality. Students who begin their training with ArtsPrep will be guided to take classes/lessons that will develop their skills through a progressive curriculum.

Every term will conclude with a public recital that will showcase the work of each student. This provides our students with the opportunity to perform before their families and peers, and gives an incentive to practice on a regular basis. At various points along the path of their training, students will be provided with an opportunity to advance to a higher level of instruction. Through instructor recommendation and/or interview and auditions, qualified students will be allowed to move into the next level of training in their discipline.

The culmination of the training comes in the various High School ensembles, designed to fully prepare our top students to enter a college or conservatory of their choosing. Students who advance to this level will be guided to begin their college career while still in High School through the Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP). PSEOP allows qualified High School students to take college level courses while still in High School for low or potentially no cost.

ArtsPrep Dance Academy

The ArtsPrep Dance Academy was created to allow our students the opportunity to express themselves creatively through movement. The program is designed to serve individuals of all skill levels, while encouraging students to develop their physical conditioning within a healthy environment, so as to be able to move into more demanding modes of artistic expression.

Progressive classes in the foundations of Modern Dance and Ballet will prepare more committed students to maximize their technical and artistic skills. These students are strongly encouraged to take classes in both dance foundations to reap the greatest benefits when exploring various styles of dance from different cultures and eras. Excellence in performance will be developed through a culminating presentation at the end of every term. Taught by the area's top professional dancers, the Dance Academy's course offerings will be demanding in an age appropriate way, while emphasizing discipline, commitment, focus, and great fun!

Weekly lessons are designed to help students work towards the mastery of instrumental or vocal techniques and the aesthetic and creative aspects of music. Instruction is available for most instruments including piano, voice, guitar, drums, strings, brass, woodwinds and ethnic instruments. For a limited time, schedule a free lesson on one instrument of your choosing.

>From beginners to competition ready virtuoso, our dynamic faculty, flexible schedule and exciting learning environment, will give the opportunity to ALL our students to examine in depth all aspects of vocal and instrumental playing as well as the basics of music theory.

Our articulate curriculum will include lesson plans for students who are studying for simply pure enjoyment, as well as a more traditional "conservatory-like" program that will prepare those students with professional aspirations to prepare for college auditions or competitions.

We offer two programs of instruction. The Preparatory Track provides students a clear pathway to college success, and follows through three levels of instruction: Pre-Prep for beginners, Prep for students choosing to focus more fully in their instrument and genre, Academy I & II for students preparing to enter the college of their choosing. Auditions are required to advance to the next level. The Adult Track consists of It's Never Too Late for those adults wishing to enjoy learning to play an instrument in a more informal environment, & the Outstanding Amateur program for those adults who already have had training in an earlier time of their life and wish to prepare for competitions for amateurs and/or other performance opportunities.

- 14 weeks

Lessons are available at all three Tri-C campuses and are pending instructor availability. At the end of each session, all our students will perform in a student recital.
