Greetings Friends of a Sustainable World,

We are seeking sponsors to support the Ohio premiere of Akron native, Mari-Lynn Evans’ groundbreaking documentary Coal Country.  Her first documentary The Appalachians, aired nationally on PBS and received glowing reviews and awards.  Mari-Lynn’s new film has already created much buzz, receiving nominations and awards at important film festivals at home and abroad.  The national premiere in West Virginia played to a packed house where hundreds of people were turned away for lack of seating..

That is why PDA – Ohio and the Portage Trail Sierra Club have partnered to organize the first Ohio showing in Akron .  We felt it important to highlight the meaningful work of one of our own, Mari-Lynn Evans, in a town with generations of ties to our West Virginia neighbors.  We have secured the historic Akron Civic Theater and are showing it for free, so that as many people as possible can experience this powerful film.

A free teaching guide will be available this fall on the website.  Educators are encouraged to use this opportunity for faculty and students to view the film and take discussion topics back to the classrooms. Please consider this as an "extra credit" opportunity. Mari-Lynn's last hit PBS Film, "The Appalachians" included a 2-CD sound track, book, and free teaching guide.

Sponsorship levels are listed below and depending on the amount donated, sponsors may be entitled to a seat(s) in the reserved section for the movie, admission(s) into the private reception with national and film notables, and ad space in the program.  Your generosity will help bring knowledge of this timely issue, mountain top removal, and its horrific and devastating effects on the people and landscape of one of the poorest regions of our nation, to a wide audience.

Sponsorship Levels:
·         $500 – 10 seats in reserved seating at the film showing
5 admissions to private reception with filmmaker and special guests, catered by VegiTerranean
