[NEohioPAL] I need help drafting an artist's statement

I need to write an artist's statement for a grant application. Obviously, whoever steps up must have no interest in the same grant, nor should you know or support anyone who does. I'm applying as an individual fiction writer (as opposed to an organization). I'd want someone to meet with me and have a chat, sort of an informal interview, and have him or her make notes that I could use to compose my artist's statement.

Another writer would be ideal or, maybe, an English teacher, or someone who understands the publishing industry. It's difficult for me to write about myself or explain myself. I don't really have a process or a philosophy or anything I can dissect and encapsulate. I wasn't getting any writing or copyediting work when I was trying to freelance, so I decided to write and self-publish fiction. I got an idea for a magazine that I haven't been able to realize. That's all I know.

This is something we could do in one sitting in the Warren Road-Detroit Avenue are of Lakewood, probably at the library . I don't expect people to work for free but I can't really afford anything, since my unemployment benefits end next week and I have no job. I could treat for a casual lunch or dinner, or come up with, maybe, $20 to compensate.

I have one shot at this, so I'm asking for serious replies only as I have no latitude for wasting time or effort.

Thanks,

Michael A. Miller
