Swing Time 1944 is a musical revue of the unforgettable music of the 1940's featuring such favorites as:  You Made Me Love You, Don't sit Under the Apple Tree, and Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy!

A WHIMSICAL HALLOWEEN MYSTERY

Join us for the debut of this original play written by Gary Gerrone that is family friendly and very funny.  Are things happening in the old mansion at the edge of town? . Mysterious, strange, and down-right spooky things!  What's worse is that the mansion's owner, Frank, is odd, scary, and definitely, dangerous!  This all has the citizens of the quaint town of Pleasant Valley in an uproar.  Is the house haunted?  Is Frank to be feared?  Should Pleasant Valley cancel Trick-or-Treat? 

 

SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM

Side by Side by Sondheim is a musical revue featuring the songs of prolific Broadway and film composer Stephen Sondheim. Its title is derived from a tune in Company.

 

CHILDREN OF EDEN 

Music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and libretto by John Caird

November 27 through December 13

Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday afternoon, 3:00 p.m.

 

Children of Eden was written by the same composer of Wicked and Godspell and originally premiered in London in 1991.  Children of Eden tells the story of Genesis for the first act, following Adam, Eve and their progeny through the expulsion from the garden. The musical's second act picks up with Noah and the flood, centering on the themes of parents, children, faith and perseverance.

 

THE LAST FIVE YEARS

Written by Jason Robert Brown

Directed by Jacqi Loewy

January 8 through January 24

Friday and Saturday evenings, 7:30 p.m. / Sunday afternoon, 3:00 p.m.

 

The story explores a five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. The show uses a form of storytelling in which Cathy travels backwards in time (beginning the show at the end of the marriage), and Jamie travels forwards (starting just after the couple have first met). The characters do not directly interact except for a wedding song in the middle as their time-lines intersect.

 

TEN CENTS A DANCE

February 4 through February 21

Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday afternoon, 3:00 p.m.

 

Ten Cents A Dance is a fictional romantic comedy based on the stories of Lorain County couples who met at the dance halls in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. In addition to following the romance of the times, audience members will have the optional opportunity to join in at the dance hall with our romantic leading couples.  Join us for a fun, nostalgic evening.

 

 

BABY: A MUSICAL

March 5 through March 21

The musical Baby, composed by David Shire in 1983 is a slightly unconventional show that concentrates on the excitement, and the problems, that accompany the experience of conceiving and giving birth to a child. 

 

 

DADDY ALLEN: THE STORY OF EASTER SEALS

Written by Richard O'Donnell

April 29 through May 16

Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday afternoon, 3:00 p.m.

 

Daddy Allen tells of the creation of Easter Seals, which was started in Elyria, Ohio following a Memorial Day InterUrban Train Collision in 1920.

 

 

SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, MUSICAL

Written by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine

July 16 through August 8

Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday afternoon, 3:00 p.m.

 

This musical was inspired by the painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" by Georges Seurat. A complex work revolving around a fictionalized Seurat immersed in single-minded concentration while painting the masterpiece.

 

 

FAMILY CONCERT SERIES

 

LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD

            Written by composer Seymour Barab

October 10 & 11

Saturday 11am and Sunday 3pm

 

Little Red Riding Hood is the most performed children's opera in the United States and is the tale of Little Red Riding Hood's meeting with the Wolf in the woods on her way to Grandmother's house.  A Costume Party follows each performance, with the best dressed Little Red Riding Hood and Wolf receiving prizes!

 

PETER AND THE WOLF

            Written by Sergei Prokofiev

May 22 and 23

Saturday, 11am and Sunday 3pm

 

A symphony written by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936 to cultivate musical tastes in children. Each character in the story has a particular instrument and a musical theme, or leitmotif:

  a.. Bird : flute / Duck : oboe / Cat : clarinet / Grandfather : bassoon / Wolf : 3 horns
  b.. Hunters : woodwind theme, with gunshots on timpani and bass drum
  c.. Peter : string instruments
SUMMER YOUTH THEATRE

August 13, 14, and 15

Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 3pm.

To be determined.  Performed by the participants of the summer theatre camp.

>From Elyria, LaGrange, Penfield: Take State Rt. 301 (Abbe Rd.) north. Drive past Lorain County Community College; remain on 301 North until you reach the intersection of 301 and Rt. 611 (Colorado Ave). (You will pass through the intersections of 301 with Rt. 254 and French Creek Rd.) Turn left onto Rt. 611 (at St. Theresa Catholic Church). The entrance to the Nature Center will be approximately 1-1/2 miles further on the left. (If you reach the intersection of Rt. 611 and East River Rd., you have gone too far.)

>From Amherst and Vermilion: Take State Rt. 2 east to Rt. 611 Exit 151 for Avon. Turn left onto Rt. 611 (Colorado Ave.). Go about two miles on Rt. 611 (past the Rt. 301 intersection). The entrance for the Nature Center will be on the left. (If you reach the intersection of Rt. 611 and East River Rd., you have gone too far.)

>From Cleveland: Take Rt. 2/I-90 west to Rt. 611 Exit 151 for Avon. Turn right off of the exit ramp onto Rt. 611 (Colorado Ave). Go about two miles on Rt. 611 (past the Rt. 301 N. intersection). The entrance for the Nature Center will be on the left. (If you reach the intersection of Rt. 611 and East River Rd., you have gone too far.)
