[NEohioPAL] PNR Improv Audition thoughts

This is a reminder that the Improv group "Point of No Return" (www.PnrImprov.org<http://www.PnrImprov.org>) will be holding auditions this Wednesday, September 23rd, at the Quirk Cultural Center, 1201 Grant St. in Cuyahoga Falls, from 6:30pm-8:30pm.  I've been either Creative Director or Executive Director of the group for most of that time (currently I'm both).  I thought I'd add a couple of thoughts here.

The group has been around for almost 7 years now, performing a couple times a month out in Cuyahoga Falls (usually between 25-50 people in the audience).  We've had people join the group, and after awhile move on.  It's been a diverse group, with the youngest joining us at 14 years old, and the oldest well over 50.  Some folks (most, actually) started with only a little experience with Improv, while others had been doing it for years.  We're currently standing at 8 active members.

And we're a serious group as well.  I'm one of the last graduates of Cleveland's failed Second City (Oooo...).  We are constantly striving to become better performers.  We focus on character, and try to stay away from the slapstick.  We're actually pretty decent on the musical side as well.  Although we limit ourselves to PG-13 material, I've found that to be more of a challenge than anything else.

Our group is financially stable (this year we changed our admission from $5 to "pay what you can"), and without the angst that some performing arts groups have.

Why am I going through this?  Because I know there are a lot of people who want to learn improv, but don't have the money.  Now, I'm absolutely no Mitchell Fields, but I do know that we're a great group for learning character-based improv.  There's no charge, and we have a great, cooperative gang.

What we do look for is commitment.  We rehearse each Wednesday evening in Cuyahoga Falls, from 6:30-8:30.  And we'd love to see some of you folks this Wednesday!
