STARTS OCT 26
MONDAY NIGHTS-lindy and balboa
INTERMEDIATE LINDY HOP from 7-8
Lindy Hop is the original form of swing dancing that originated in the
ballrooms of Harlem, NY in the late 1920s/early 1930s. It is done in 8
counts rather than the Jitterbug’s 6 and therefore allows you to match
the music much better. It is a bit more linear versus the circular
Jitterbug too. The Lindy Hop is a tiny bit more difficult to learn but
oh so worth it! When you begin to master the swing out, circle, inside
turn, outside turn, RJ, and more…you will have a sense of overwhelming
euphoria and true connections to the music! For examples of the Lindy
Hop think of the dance scenes in the movies “Swing Kids” or “Malcolm
X” or to the video section ofGetHepSwing.com.
INTERMEDIATE BALBOA/BAL-SWING from 8-9
Balboa and Bal-Swing are dances that originated in the crowded
ballrooms of Southern California and were popular in the mid 1930’s.
The Balboa is most loved for its fancy footwork, finesse, subtleties,
and ability to be done quite easily at fast tempos. The Balboa is done
with a closer torso to torso type connection and is the perfect dance
for work-
ing on leading and following body leads. Bal-Swing: with its open body
connection, developed when the strict Balboa and California style
swing dancing were combined. Bal-Swing and its bigger,” crazier”
movements would often times get you kicked out of the ballrooms back
in the day! Come and be a rebel and learn Balboa with us! To see that
the Balboa
looks like, please check the video sections of GetHepSwing.com or
AllBalboa.com.
No partner is needed for this class. Dress in comfortable clothing
andwear shoes that are a bit on the slippery side. Leather soled shoes
are perfect for this foot particular dance. It is also recommended
that the ladies in the Balboa class wear at least a small heel.
STARTS OCT 27
TUESDAY NIGHTS-Jitterbug
Beginning Jitterbug from 7-8
This class will be an introduction to the most well known form of
swing dancing: the Jitterbug. The dance was originally made famous in
the 40’s and 50’s but is still enjoyed today all across the world. We
will dance to the music from the big band era and blues to rock and
roll. You will learn several basic foot work patterns, how to connect
with a partner and lead and follow in a variety of open and closed
positions. There are many
opportunities in the Cleveland area to go out and dance and this is a
great way to get involved, meet people and get some exercise too! You
do NOT need a partner. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that do not
stick.
Intermediate Jitterbug from 8-9
If you can do the triple step basic while holding a decent
conversation, then congratulations, you have just been promoted to
intermediate Jitterbug. In this class we will work on some fancier,
flashier, variations on moves you already know. We’ll sharpen up your
leading and following
skills. Yep, all that in 5 weeks! No partner needed. Wear comfortable
clothes and shoes that do not stick.
Course Fee: $50 Single - $80 Couple
Please contact BCA to register or just show up and I will take care of
getting you all regsitered.
