As a special Halloween treat (or trick) "The OCB Players" premiere
broadcast of the classic radio play "War of The Worlds" will air on
WUDG, UndergroundColumbus.com at 12 midnight October 31st, 71 year to
the day after the original radio play performed by Orson Welles and The
Mercury Theatre on CBS radio. The OCB broadcast will replay again at 12
noon and 8pm October 31st.

 

Taken from the original script (now in the public domain)  the first two
thirds of the 60-minute broadcast is presented as a series of simulated
news bulletins, which suggest to listeners that an actual Martian
invasion is in progress. Compounding the issue is the fact that the
broadcast runs without commercial breaks, thus adding to the dramatic
effect. The Underground broadcast does take the liberty of changing the
location of the Martian landing from Grover's Mill New Jersey (20 miles
from New York) to Plain City, Ohio (20 miles from Columbus).
