Brecksville Center for the Arts invites you to a new show in our
gallery by Carl Behrens.

The show opens Friday, November 6 and will continue through
November with a reception Sunday November 8
from 6-8 pm. The show is free and open to the public.

Carl's work is composed of nearly 50 boards.

His work blends interests in painting and photography, interprets the textures found in nature and highlights the universal symbols of life.  These designs, though abstract, capture the subtle layers found in nature and reflect a unique and personal perspective to the viewer.

Each piece in this collection began with an idea or photo which captured the basic composition.  Materials used are simple hardboard, plaster and common objects for pattern.  In some cases, polymer clay is used to create objects that will become part of the composition.  The goal with each piece is to mirror the colors and texture seen in nature, layering the patterns in such a way as to create a coherent theme; the movement of  wind,  warmth of sun, the embrace of love.

Texture is achieved via rounds of sanding and coats of polymer gel applied after the plaster has dried.  Layers of color are a result of glazing, drying and reglazing each work until the optimum depth is achieved.  Each coat of paint is protected by a polymer coat, a process which continues until the piece is completed.
