Medina High School presents The Sound of Music, opens Nov. 20



The
Medina Performing Arts Center will come alive with The Sound of Music this
November. Presented by the Music and Drama Departments at Medina High School,
this classic and endearing musical will run November 20, 21, at 7:30 pm and
November 22 at 2 pm. Tickets are $10 each. 
Based on the book The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, it features an
unforgettable Rodgers and Hammerstein score, including “My Favorite Things,”
“Do-Re-Mi” and “Climb Every Mountain.”



 



A
spirited young postulant named Maria is sent to serve as a governess for
Captain Von Trapp, a widower with seven children. Her unorthodox methods
quickly win over the children but clash with the regimental conduct the Captain
insists upon. In the end, Maria changes the Captain and helps him to recapture
his love of family and music.



 



Playing
the role of Maria will be Rebecca Ribley. Playing the stern Captain von
Trapp will be John Semenik. Amy Grams plays The Mother Abbess; Kristin Leuchtag
plays Elsa Schraeder; and David Grant will appear as Max Detweiler. 



 



Also
featured are Josh Trommer as the butler Franz, Emma Skorepa as the housekeeper
Frau Schmidt, Zack Pytel as Rolf, Cole Oeste as Herr Zeller, and Audrey
Hoffmann as Liesl von Trapp.



 



Rounding
out the children will be Kyle Root as Friedrich von Trapp, Katie Morgan as
Louisa von Trapp, Anthony Piloseno as Kurt von Trapp, Mandi Simmons as Brigitta
von Trapp, Ellyssa Stadler as Marta von Trapp, and Abby McClintock as Gretl von
Trapp, the youngest.



 



Sarah
Lesiak as Sister Berthe, Mistress of Novices, Bekah  Johnson 
as Sister Margaretta, Mistress of Postulants, Corinne Hastings as Sister
Sophia, Aileen Zietlow as Baroness Elberfeld, Brittany Johns as A New Postulant,
and Brian Kovach as Admiral von Schreiber.



 



Nuns
will be played by Laura Bayda, Clare Borrelli, Lauren Breck, Brooke Cummins,
Allie Dudash, Emily Grams, Erika Hripko, Brittany Johns, Ashleigh Johnston,
Katie Lloyd, Bridgette Maillie, Jennifer Miller, Katie Morgan, Nicole Skidmore,
Emma C. Skorepa, Sydney Stiles, Caitlin Terrell, Eryn Tramel, Anna Turpin, and
Aileen Zietlow.



 



The
director is Ansley Valentine, assisted by Dottie Nemec. Scenic designer David
Tidwell will create the familiar locales of Alpine meadows, the abbey and the
von Trapp estate. Tidwell’s design includes projected scenic elements that will
help the production flow smoothly from scene to scene. Bringing the
unforgettable Rodgers and Hammerstein score to life will be Vocal Director Beth
Bayda and Music Director Tyler Skidmore. Costumes are designed by Chris
Scheneman. Lights are by Thomas West; the sound designer is Tom Kiousis and
Michael Nemec serves as technical director. Student Brittany Wadel is production
stage manager. Other student production staff members include assistant director Cole Oeste; prop masters Josh
Trommer and Shawna Curry; sound and lighting crew Sarah
Kaletta and Kegan Ruthsatz; costume and make up crew Sarah Risser and Mandi
Simmons; and set construction and run crew Rita Mayer, Emily Metzker, and Emma C.
Skorepa.
