*A Holiday Tradition, A Christmas Carol at Geauga Theater
*
A time-honored tradition continues this year at the Geauga Theater in
Chardon with the 2009 production of A Christmas Carol. The story tells of
Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly old man, who loves his money and work more than
mankind. Scrooge is visited by his deceased partner, Jacob Marley, who
warns that he will be visited by three ghosts to show him his fate. As
Scrooge soars through time, he realizes his ways and wishes to redeem
himself on Christmas Morning.

The setting of this rendition is 1871, the year after Charles Dicken’s
death. The Geauga Theater will transform into a London Playhouse that is
performing a tribute show in honor of Mr. Dickens death. The theater and
the play encompass the theme of Dickens novel, the social injustice and
poverty that took place at that time.

Over ten years ago the Geauga Lyric Theater Guild adapted the novel and
added music scores. This year’s production showcases a cast of over 50
members, including twenty-plus local children under the age of 18. In this
play within a play, Tom Hill will be reprising his role of Cecil Rattenbury
playing Scrooge. The show features an array of seasonal songs, unique and
new special effects, and fun for the whole family. Come before the show to
listen to the Victorian choir, buy penny candy, and transport yourself to
the 1870’s!

A Christmas Carol runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 and Sundays at 2:00,
December 4th through 20th. Call 440-286-2255 for more information or visit
the website at www.geaugatheater.org.
