Introductory class for young actors to work in a small group learning and
developing basic stage skills for voice, body and imagination. Exercises and
games for rhythmic and spatial awareness, sense isolation, character
creation, focus/concentration and ensemble skills along with acting in short
scenes and sketches, memorization and recitation.

Each class starts with a voice, body and technique barre followed by acting
out scenes. The emphasis of the class is scene work and character
development tailored to the actor along with exercises to overcome common
performance pitfalls and problems. These exercises include breath control,
voice strengthening, articulation, memorization, concentration, and focus
and relaxation techniques.

A Special Audition Workshop for the URTA's and Graduate Schools."

Whether you are a high school student, college student or even if you just
wish to polish your auditioning skills, this workshop will prepare you for
college auditions, the URTA auditions or for graduate school.  Cleveland
Play House Associate Artistic Director Seth Gordon will guide you through
the process of presenting the best that you have to offer.

Choose the best monologue for you and its successful delivery. From how you
actually walk into the room through the entire experience, you will learn
how to approach auditions as a confident, polished professional.


*Shakespeare in your Pocket*
Ages: 8th grade - Adult
Instructor: Dana Hart

Sundays, starting January 3, 2010; 7:00 – 8:30pm

Master short Shakespeare pieces for audition, competition – learn to act
these great characters and great moments. You will be working on performing
Shakespeare by learning the text of short character monologues. No longer
than 25-35 lines, these character pieces will teach you all the major tools
you need to take on any Shakespeare text. We will follow the approach of
Scott Kaiser; Master teacher with Oregon Shakespeare, including:
*Art of Orchestration:* "Orchestrating" the text through punctuation,
operative words, pentameter, and measures.
*Focal Points:* Managing your focal points between yourself and the
audience.
*Images:* Further on focal points and imagery positioning.
*Spoken Subtext:* Secret fear, hopes and doubts and how they pay into
character decisions and actor physical placement
*Actions:*  Creating physical, opposing, and other kinds of action choices
to suit the character and play.
*Complex Orchestration:*  Creating a toolkit for the actor.
*Towards Performance:* Previsualization, types of objectives and other
questions are explored.

*Dance for the Broadway Stage*

Class includes basic ballet and jazz technique to help a dancer develop
their skills.   Very appropriate for the non-dancer, actors, singers and
anyone who just loves musical theater.  Part of each class is given over to
repertory.  Students will be  introduced to the various styles of a range of
choreographers: Bob Fosse, Agnes DeMille, Jerome Robbins, Michael Kidd,
Tommy Tune and many more.

*Create Your Own Monologue*
Ages: 8th grade - Adult
Instructor: Elizabeth Townsend
Ten Sessions, Mondays, starting January 4, 2010; 5:30 – 7:30pm

Here is an opportunity to find your inner voice and embody it. Create your
own characters and monologues through acting exercises and improvisation. At
the end of the term, there will be a performance open to the public.

Hone your skill and your acting technique through scene study designed to
meet your specific challenges. Whether you are interested in classical text
or contemporary, here is your opportunity stretch and learn. This course
will be featuring the use of the following techniques for character
development and interaction: Stanislavski, Meisner, and Chekhov. At the end
of the term, there will be a performance open to the public.

*One Day Dance Workshop in Jazz, Ballet, Partnering and Lifts
“Give Yourself Over to the Dance”
*Ages: 6th grade - Adult

1 Session: Tuesday, December 29, 10:00am – 1:30pm
(three hours of class / 30 minute lunch break at Noon)
Fee: $40

Spend a day sweating and stretching and moving to the music.

This three hour workshop is open to dancers, actors, singers and anyone else
who loves to move. It includes:  Basic ballet and jazz technique for actors,
floor barre for posture, alignment and flexibility, partnering and lifts,
repertoire, nutrition for dancers, actors and singers. Bring dance clothes,
jazz or ballet shoes, a towel, lots of water and a “healthy” lunch.

*ABOUT THE THEATRE & DANCE INSTRUCTORS AT FPAC*

*Seth Gordon* is Associate Artistic Director of  the Cleveland Play House.
At the Play House, he produces FusionFest, helps with season planning and
casting, runs the Playwrights’ Unit, and directs plays. His Play House
directing credits include *Dinner with Friends, Proof, Forest City *(world
premiere), *Vincent in Brixton, Tuesdays with Morrie,* *A Christmas Story*,
*RFK, Of Mice and Men, The Chosen, Doubt, The Lady with All the Answers *and
*Inherit the Wind.* He has also directed in Cleveland for Dobama Theatre,
the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival, and the Beck Center for the Arts. He
recently directed the Arabic premiere of *Our Town *in Cairo. Previously, he
served as Literary Manager and then as Associate Producer of Primary Stages
in New York, where he produced and/or directed countless productions,
workshops and readings of new plays by this country’s leading playwrights.
He has also directed at many other New York theatres, and has directed and
lectured at various universities including Case Western Reserve University.
He received the 2004 and 2006 Northern Ohio Live Award for Excellence in
Theatre. He considers himself a lucky man.

*Bebe Weinberg Katz, B.A., M. Ed. *is an artist and an educator. She has
danced, choreographed, staged, designed, directed, taught, written and
illustrated. In all of these capacities her mission statement has been
simple and constant. "Art flows in two directions. It is both my passion and
my honor to take it in and send it out."

As an educator Bebe has taught dance to children, teens and adults in the
public schools, the Jewish Community Center, in her own dance and fitness
studio, in private dance studios and Camp Wise. Bebe holds a masters degree
in exercise science along with a B.A. in dance and has created many fitness
and wellness programs throughout the Cleveland area. Most notable is her
development of the aerobics program and the pre/post natal exercise program
at the JCC and the creation of a group exercise instructor training program
for Cleveland State University.

On the University level Bebe is a faculty member at Baldwin-Wallace College
and Cleveland State University. Her courses include: movement education
classes for early childhood majors, group fitness instructor training,
women’s wellness seminars and dance methodology and pedagogy.

Her dance credits extend from Purcell’s Opera *The Fairy Queen* and The
Cathy Powel Dance Company in Pittsburgh to the Dancing Mimes at
DanceCleveland as well as her own company, Center Motion at the JCC.

Bebe was the resident choreographer for the vocal music departments at
Euclid High School. While in Euclid Bebe worked with the show choir “Varsity
Choral” and choreographed their productions of *The Music Man, Hello Dolly,
Anything Goes, Pajama Game, Pippin, Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz* and*Grease*.

She currently holds the position of resident choreographer at Shaker Heights
High School and Cleveland Heights High School. She is the choreographer for
Shaker’s “Chanticleers” and Cleveland Height’s nationally ranked show choir
“Singers”. Bebe has done the choreography for the CHHS productions of *Fiddler
on the Roof, West Side Story* and *Guys and Dolls*, as well as doing costume
design for the latter two.

Bebe has production credentials spanning the 35 years she has lived in
Cleveland. She was dance and drama specialist at Camp Wise, and performed
the choreographer duties for *Mame* at Chagrin Valley Little Theater, *Anything
Goes** *at Euclid Community Theater, *Joseph, Holy Moses, Rock Pinocchio,
The Grand Tour* and *Fiddler on the Roof* at the Cleveland JCC. She also
directed*The Apple Tree* for the JCC and was costume assistant for *The Wall
* and *The Merry Widow*.

She also has written a number of books. Her most recent works are The
M.I.M.E Set, an activity book the integrates movement and academics, and
three middle grade chapter books titled*Princess Claudia and the Freckles*,
*A Best Friend for Claudia* and *Sibling Wars*.

*Dana Hart *apprenticed to the Cleveland Play House and has been a member of
Actors Equity for over 25 years. He has performed from Alaska to Zimbabwe
and in 48 of the 50 states including seasons with Alaska Repertory Theatre,
Center Stage (Baltimore), Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, San Diego Repertory
Theatre and Theatre West Virginia. He has appeared Off- Broadway in New York
and with many Northeast Ohio theatres including The Beck Center, Ensemble,
Actors' Summit, Dobama, Clague Playhouse, Great Lakes Theatre Festival and
the Cleveland PlayHouse.

Mr. Hart holds degrees in both Theatre Arts and English (teaching) from the
University of Alaska Fairbanks . He is currently the Upper School Drama and
Speech teacher at the Laurel School in Shaker Heights and also a member of
the faculty at the Beck Center for the Performing Arts. While in Alaska Mr.
Hart was the co-founder of Playmaking: a theatre company doing theatre and
storytelling workshops in towns and villages across Alaska . He was both a
teacher and the Artistic Director of the Sitka Summer Fine Arts Camp and a
teacher with both the Fairbanks Summer Fine Arts Camp and the Fairmount
Performing Arts Camp at Laurel School . He has been funded by four states to
conduct Artist in the Schools programs in Maryland , Washington , Alaska ,
and Ohio and was awarded an Ohio Arts Council travel grant to present new
works at the Hararre International Festival of the Arts in 2000. Mr. Hart
has coached three of the last seven winners of Cleveland Branch ESU
Shakespeare Recitation Competition

*Elizabeth Ann Townsend* is a professional actress and teacher. She is a
graduate of Columbia University in New York City where she lived, worked,
and studied as an actress for 22 years. She has performed in nearly all of
the major venues in Cleveland. Most recently, she was seen as the mother in
The Cleveland Play House's production of *A Christmas Story*. She was a
featured player in HBO's hit series "*The Sopranos*" and NBC's *"Law &
Order."* She has also been featured in numerous independent films and has
been a principle player in many national network commercials.

Elizabeth's training in New York includes: 3 years with The American
Stanislavski Theatre, 3 years of Meisner training and advanced scene study
with Wynn Handman of The American Place Theatre and 3 years of advanced
training with Alice Spivak, a protégé of Uta Hagan.

As a teacher, Elizabeth began coaching actors in New York City. In
Cleveland, she has taught commercial acting for The Cleveland Play House and
Shaker High School, Film Acting for the Cleveland School of the Arts. She is
one of the
Conservatory teachers at The Beck School of the Arts. She will be working
with teenagers this winter/spring in the Curtain Pullers series at The
Cleveland Play House.

In all the work that Elizabeth does, she has one goal: to help people live
the lives they dream of.
