Sip into the Holidays
An Auction to benefit the Lakewood Division on Aging
Saturday, December 5, 2009

Friends of the Lakewood Commission on Aging have teamed up with Artwood, aka Lakewood is Art, for the Third Annual Sip Into the Holidays Benefit at Local Girl Gallery on Saturday, December 5th at 7pm.  The purpose of the Benefit is to raise funds and awareness for the many programs the Lakewood Division of Aging provides senior citizens in the Community.   

The evening is highlighted by an auction of hand painted wine, martini, and champagne glasses.   More than 25 pieces of work from renowned local, regional and national talent will be part of the auction. Featured local artists include Michael Heasley, Michelle Mowery, Kim Nugent, Barbara Ferris, and Silva Masek. Joann and Pam Brown, from New Hope Minnesota, are the participating artists from the longest distance away. “I grew up in Lakewood”, says Joann, “and am thrilled to do a little something to help the senior programs in my home town.”  The “birding” inspired glasses are being delivered by her daughter who is driving from Kalamazoo, Michigan for the event.  Bidding for each piece will open at well below market value. 
Last year’s event raised about $2,200, and the group hopes bringing on licensed auctioneer, John Bergoine, will help them raise well above that.  The evening begins at 7:00pm with socializing over cocktails, refreshments, and seasonal music by The Peddlers of Mirth. The live auction starts at 8:00 pm.   Sponsors for this year include The Independent, Kendall Jarrell of Nationwide Insurance of Lakewood, the Mars Bar, Massimo da Milano, Bob Vaughn-Barefoot Cellars and Tony Eadeh of Friendly Mini Mart.
