 The Shaker Heights High School Theatre Arts Department, proudly presents Much Ado About Nothing, a comedy by William Shakespeare.

Beginning with our 2005 production of Twelfth Night, a goal was set to produce a Shakespeare play every four years so that every student would have the opportunity to study, produce, and view the Bard’s works.  This year, a company of 65 students and adults is coming together to create Much Ado, one of Shakespeare’s most musical of comedies.  We’ve taken 16th century Spanish-occupied Sicily and reimagined it as 1950s Havana, Cuba.  You will surely be taken by its singing and salsa dancing lovers, villains, and clowns, not to mention the lights and set, the costumes, the players, and by the unseen hands that pull it all together and keep it running.

Directed by Cleveland theatre artist and Department Chair Christine McBurney, the production features 65 students in a variety of roles ranging from performers, to musicians, managers, designers and fundraisers. Among the 8 staff members involved in this production are, Erik Johnson (Co-Producer), Wendy Lynne (Movement Specialist), Sabatino Verlezza (Choreographer), Chuck Tisdale (Technical Designer), Megan Pitcher (Costumer), Julia Rossi ’95 (Box Office Manager), and Rick Jennings ‘03 (Adult Stage Manager).

•       Performances of Much Ado About Nothing are at 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 3rd, Friday, December 4th, and Saturday December 5th, 2009.
•       At Shaker Heights High School in the newly restored and renovated Large Auditorium (15911 Aldersyde Dr).
•       Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and senior adults, and may be purchased by calling the 24 Hour box office at 216-295-4287.

Named a center of excellence by the National Council of Teachers of English, Shaker Theatre includes daily classes and a production season including four mainstage performances and three “showcase” performances and events.
