Seven local filmmaking teams had two weeks to create fictional documentaries about the history of Akron and will now present their projects to a panel of judges on Thursday, December 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Akron Art Museum. The event is presented by Akron Film and is free and open to public. The filmmakers were required to answer two questions in their movies:

-Why are there always blimps in the Akron sky?
-Why might you find marbles in the ground in Akron?

Some of the movies' highlights include:
-Two time travelers build a marble factory to fuel their futuristic time machine
-Blimps have been hunted for their skins and are now going extinct.
-Large floating lemurs fill the city skies, only to be hidden by a secret society.

The judges include David Giffels (former Beacon Journal columnist and author of the book "All the Way Home"), Josh Gippin (director of the documentary "God as We Understand Him"), Vivian Goodman (WKSU Reporter/Producer, Local Host of Fresh Air and All Things Considered) and Mike Wendt (director of the documentary "The End of the World as We Knew It").

The winning team will receive $250 cash plus an assortment of items from local businesses, and will be screened again as part of the Akron Film Festival, taking place from September 23rd to 26th, 2010 at the Akron Art Museum. Audiences are also asked to participate by voting for their own favorite movie.

The event will take place in the Akron Art Museum's Charles and Jane Lehner Auditorium. Parking for the event is free after 6:00 p.m. in the High Street municipal garage directly across the street from the entrance of the Akron Art Museum. Galleries are open until 9 p.m. Admission fees apply to the galleries. The film program is free, but seating is limited and will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Arriving early is advised.
