*Dance for the Broadway Stage

Ages: 8th grade - Adult
Instructor: Bebe Weinberg Katz
10 Sessions, Mondays, starting January 4, 2010; 4:30 – 5:45pm
Fee: $140

Class includes basic ballet and jazz technique to help a dancer develop
their skills.   Very appropriate for the non-dancer, actors, singers and
anyone who just loves musical theater.  Part of each class is given over to
repertory.  Students will be  introduced to the various styles of a range of
choreographers: Bob Fosse, Agnes DeMille, Jerome Robbins, Michael Kidd,
Tommy Tune and many more.

*Bebe Weinberg Katz, B.A., M. Ed. *is an artist and an educator. She has
danced, choreographed, staged, designed, directed, taught, written and
illustrated. In all of these capacities her mission statement has been
simple and constant. "Art flows in two directions. It is both my passion and
my honor to take it in and send it out."


As an educator Bebe has taught dance to children, teens and adults in the
public schools, the Jewish Community Center, in her own dance and fitness
studio, in private dance studios and Camp Wise. Bebe holds a masters degree
in exercise science along with a B.A. in dance and has created many fitness
and wellness programs throughout the Cleveland area. Most notable is her
development of the aerobics program and the pre/post natal exercise program
at the JCC and the creation of a group exercise instructor training program
for Cleveland State University.

On the University level Bebe is a faculty member at Baldwin-Wallace College
and Cleveland State University. Her courses include: movement education
classes for early childhood majors, group fitness instructor training,
women’s wellness seminars and dance methodology and pedagogy.

Her dance credits extend from Purcell’s Opera  *The Fairy Queen* and The
Cathy Powel Dance Company in Pittsburgh to the Dancing Mimes at
DanceCleveland as well as her own company, Center Motion at the JCC.

Bebe was the resident choreographer for the vocal music departments at
Euclid High School. While in Euclid Bebe worked with the show choir “Varsity
Choral” and choreographed their productions of *The Music Man, Hello Dolly,
Anything Goes, Pajama Game, Pippin, Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz* and*Grease*.

She currently holds the position of resident choreographer at Shaker Heights
High School and Cleveland Heights High School. She is the choreographer for
Shaker’s “Chanticleers” and Cleveland Height’s nationally ranked show choir
“Singers”. Bebe has done the choreography for the CHHS productions of *Fiddler
on the Roof, West Side Story* and *Guys and Dolls*, as well as doing costume
design for the latter two.

Bebe has production credentials spanning the 35 years she has lived in
Cleveland. She was dance and drama specialist at Camp Wise, and performed
the choreographer duties for *Mame* at Chagrin Valley Little Theater, *Anything
Goes** *at Euclid Community Theater, *Joseph, Holy Moses, Rock Pinocchio,
The Grand Tour* and *Fiddler on the Roof* at the Cleveland JCC. She also
directed*The Apple Tree* for the JCC and was costume assistant for *The Wall
* and *The Merry Widow*.

She also has written a number of books. Her most recent works are The
M.I.M.E Set, an activity book the integrates movement and academics, and
three middle grade chapter books titled*Princess Claudia and the Freckles*,
*A Best Friend for Claudia* and *Sibling Wars*.
