to audition as an actor you HAVE to pay $4 per role submitted through screeetest.biz, they arent going through agencies or open calls...

i've been debating whether i should or should not on principle vs. playing to the market.

I'm not sure at this point but check out the Cleveland Film Commission's website www.clevelandfilm.com. They will post info about auditions and crew calls as they become available.

Three Films to Begin Production in Northeast Ohio in Spring 2010

CLEVELAND – The State of Ohio has approved the applications for three projects to be filmed in Northeast Ohio using the Film Tax Credit. 

The three projects to be filmed in Northeast Ohio are independent films produced by New York and Cleveland-based Nehst Studios. The films receiving tax credits are “The Kid Who Only Hit Homers,” a movie based on a set of popular children’s books; the horror sequel “Strangeland 2”; and a Vivica A. Fox project called “Cleopatra Smiles.” The films will all begin pre-production in the next 90 days. A fourth film receiving tax credits – “Unstoppable,” a big budget blockbuster from Twentieth Century starring Denzel Washington – was filmed throughout eastern Ohio in November and December. 

“This is an incredible day for film production in Cleveland,” said Ivan Schwarz, Executive Director of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission. “Not only will they employ members of our local film community and bring a boost to the economy, but it shows that the state is recognized as an ideal location for film production. The film tax credit is a real game changer for making great films in Ohio.”

The three projects filming in Northeast Ohio have combined budgets of $15 million and are expected to employ 394 cast and crewmembers and nearly 1,200 paid extras and bring more than $22.5 million to the community. Film production has a high economic output multiplier with a good portion of every film budget spent purchasing goods and services from local vendors of such things as lumber, paint, rental cars and hotels. A dollar spent in film production generates more statewide economic activity than the same dollar spent in three-quarters of other industries. 

“The Greater Cleveland Film Commission has been instrumental in bringing these productions to the Cleveland area,” said Jeremy Henthorn, the director of the Ohio Film Office. “The communication between the Ohio Film Office and the Cleveland Film Commission is very active and we look forward to working with the commission more often as film projects increase in the state due to the recently passed film tax credit.”

The Film Tax Credit was included in the state’s biennial budget which was passed by the Ohio General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Ted Strickland in July. The budget bill allocated $10 million in Fiscal Year 2010 and $20 million in Fiscal Year 2011 to provide tax credits to film, television and other media productions in Ohio. 

Nehst Studios, a New York and Cleveland-based independent film and television production, financing and distribution company, opened a film studio in the downtown Cleveland Convention Center in 2009. The Greater Cleveland Film Commission has worked closely with Nehst Studios during the studio relocation and tax credit application processes.
