Swing City Big Band is an outstanding eighteen piece band which features
fabulous vocalists singing the classics from the Great American Songbook as
performed by such luminaries as Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Ella Fitzgerald,
and Peggy Lee. The Band also plays the renowned big band standards made
famous by Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, Gene Krupa and others.

 

Swing City was formed in 1999 by Lorain native, Terry Kitchen - a Lorain
High School Alumnus, who resides on the city's west side and owns a business
in Vermilion. He is the Director and lead trumpet player. The Band is
comprised mainly of the top musicians living in Lorain County or in the
western Cleveland suburbs. Swing City was initially put together with the
idea of bringing together local musicians who wanted to play the big band
standards of the 1930's and 40's in an effort to keep the music alive for
audiences and musicians alike. Over the years, the Band has evolved as it
updated its repertoire with musical arrangements and transcriptions that
include vocals featuring such great performers as Sinatra and Fitzgerald
backed by the great Count Basie Orchestra, Anita O'Day singing with Gene
Krupa's big band and Helen Forrest performing with Benny Goodman's
orchestra.

 

Swing City Big Band plays many of the hits just as they were performed by
those great singers including Sinatra's "Come Fly with Me" and "Summer
Wind", Bobby Darin's "Mack the Knife" and "Beyond the Sea", and Ella's "That
Old Black Magic" and "On the Sunny Side of the Street". This Big Band
provides professional quality entertainment for various public functions and
private parties in the Greater Cleveland area. It can be seen on a regular
basis at Amber Oaks Restaurant in Sheffield Lake where it performs a monthly
