Cleveland Public Theatre Announces Additional Auditions for the World Premiere of:

Wanderlust: A History of Walking

Based on the book by Rebecca Solnit

Adapted and Directed by Matthew Earnest

CPT is proud to present the World Premiere of Wanderlust: A History of Walking, onstage in the James Levin Theatre from May 6 - May 29 (Paid Previews on May 6 and 7; Opening Night, Saturday, May 8).

Wanderlust opens with a team of paleoanthropologists examining the bones of a recently discovered 3.2 million year-old hominid they have named Lucy and moves to peripatetic lectures of the Greeks to modern tourism - from labyrinths to treadmills, from 19th century mountaineering to the ancient Hajj, from Dr. King's civil rights marches to the AIDS Walk and ultimately, to Las Vegas, Solnit's symbol of a post-Walking America.

Rehearsals for Wanderlust: A History of Walking will begin on March 29, 2010.

For this project, we are seeking imaginative performers with movement ability, as well as acting skills and singing experience. Dancers are encouraged to audition, as well as actors and singers who are comfortable doing various types of movement, or have modern dance and/or musical theatre experience. The piece will be created using the unique skill sets of the performers cast.

Woman 20-30; African American woman, slender

Man 40-60; any race

Those auditioning are asked to prepare the following:

*         2 minute monologue

* A few bars of a song. (It can be as simple as "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" or something more challenging, depending on your comfort level and ability.)

Movement portion:

* Those with advanced movement experience and/or training should prepare a brief movement sequence. (If you are familiar with contact, Forsythe, or Graham, you should let that influence your sequence.)

* Those with lesser or no movement experience will be given a few simple steps to perform

Please bring two copies of your headshot & resume to the audition. Auditions are open to union and non-union performers.

We will be having the additional auditions on Sunday, January 31st at 7:00pm. Auditions will take place in one hour increments. Interested parties should email Beth Wood at bwood at cptonline.org<mailto:bwood at cptonline.org> to schedule an appointment.
