Come see this epic production about a true champion who overcame incredible odds and
obstacles to become the first Negro heavyweight champion of the world.
 
 It is a rolling saga of the tumultuous times in which Jack Johnson lived and fought. It is also the story of those who loved him - and hated him, on his way to the top of the boxing world, and his universal  message that only by being true to himself would he overcome all the barriers thrown in his path. 
 
It is also fitting that this story of a champion was chosen to exhibit the collaborative spirit
so necessary for the performing arts in Northeast Ohio to survive these very harsh times.
Ensemble Theatre of Cleveland, Karamu Performing Arts Center, and the Weathervane
Playhouse are deeply honored to present this rarely performed work that exemplifies 
the human spirit under extreme adversities and finally overcoming in spite of them.
