Thanks to all of you who came up with "Beah Richards" and took the time
to respond. 

I thought that would lead me to the answer of my second question and it
hasn't.

Years ago I saw her in a film or play on TV about an elderly couple. The
husband was dying so he got drunk at a bar and crashed on the way home
so his wife could sue the bar and then have money to live on. Does this
ring a bell to anyone?
