April 12, you say? What is this – some kind of Daylight Savings thing? That's right, on MONDAY, APRIL 12 at 7 p.m., First Mondays brings you a reading of The Sunrise Side, a delightful new comedy takes you inside the First Bedroom for a look at Laura and “GW” at home in the White House. The reading features Elizabeth Townsend, George Roth, Joe Verciglio and Tim Keo. Playwright Ashley Minihan joins us from New York to discuss the First Reading of this interesting and unusual work.

First Mondays resumes its regular schedule on Monday, May 3 with a reading of Artemesia by Jean Cummins, an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Alexandra Lapierre. Artemesia Gentileschi is the foremost female artist of the Renaissance best known, unfortunately, not for her brilliant canvasses but for the lawsuit brought by her father Orazio against the notorious Agostino Tassi, for dishonoring his daughter and ruining the Gentileschi name. Sally Groth, Michael Regnier, and Courteney Nelson are featured in this story of love and betrayal. The reading includes a slideshow and discussion of Artemesia’s work by art historian Patricia Ashton.

First Mondays performs at The Alcazar, the historic residence at 2450 Derbyshire, at the top of Cedar Hill in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood of Cleveland Heights. Admission is $5 at the door. There’s plenty of street parking and a number of metered lots, one just off Cedar at Derbyshire, across the street from Bruegger’s bagels. Visit www.thealcazar.com for detailed directions. Call 321-5400 on the day of the performance to arrange handicapped parking inside The Alcazar garage.
