The School for Mime Theatre is a dynamic and vital center where mime and movement artists come from around the world to develop their craft and discover new writing and construction methods in order to advance their art. This fertile laboratory has become an important summer retreat where faculty, students and professionals work and play together in a non-competitive environment as they hone their performance skills and explore new artistic directions. The annual seminars bring mimes, actors, dancers and other performing artists together in a spirit of disciplined and playful exploration with daily classes running from 9am to 5pm, open studio sessions and evening laboratories where students showcase their work among a group of supportive peer facilitated by a staff of dedicated professional theatre artists. A faculty/ student performance is scheduled before a live audience in the Bolton Theater at the end of the seminar which is always free to the public.
All seminar sessions include housing and tuition. Transportation and food is the responsibility of the participant. Kitchen facilities and an outdoor barbecue grill are made available with a local market, coffee shop with internet access and The Gambier Deli within easy walking distance of the housing facilities. The Kenyon campus features a Hotel, a B&B, restaurants, state of the art athletic facilities, a dance studio, two theatres, a bookstore, bike path, nature center and other activities nestled among the beautiful rolling hills of central Ohio. Additional shopping, restaurants, movie theaters, etc, are located only four miles away in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
A Youth Mime Seminar is scheduled prior to these adult seminars, available only to students ages 8-18 living in Knox County, June 7 - 25th. A final Youth Mime Seminar performance of Rudyard Kiplings, 'The Jungle Book' is scheduled June 25th at 7pm in the Bolton Theatre and is always free to the public.
