The Chagrin Valley Writers' Workshop

MANUSCRIPT WORKSHOP at THE CHAGRIN VALLEY WRITERS' WORKSHOP - SCOTT
LAX, WORKSHOP LEADER

DATES: Saturdays, May 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29; June 5 & 12, 2010.

TIME: 1 PM - 3 PM

LOCATION: The Chagrin Valley Writers' Workshop in beautiful downtown
Chagrin Falls, Ohio, 84 N. Main St., Ste. A, Chagrin Falls, OH

COST: $185. 10% discount for former students of Scott Lax & members
of The Lit: Cleveland's Literary Center.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Do you have a manuscript of fiction or
nonfiction? Do you feel something is lacking in it, but you’re not
sure what? It helps to get “fresh eyes” on your manuscript and to
discuss what works, what doesn’t, and maybe even get new ideas for it.
At our Saturday afternoon manuscript workshop, you can get that kind
of input and help. Students are asked to submit up to 15 pages of a
fiction or nonfiction manuscript – short story, novel or memoir
excerpt, for example. If it’s time for you to take that next step with
your work, this workshop is for you.

LIMIT: 10 students.

SCOTT LAX TEACHING SCHEDULE FOR THE LIT: CLEVELAND'S LITERARY CENTER

THE ART OF STORY: FICTION & NONFICTION at THE LIT

DATES: Tuesdays, May 4-25; June 1, 8, 2010. 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

LOCATION: Gypsy Bean in Historic Gordon Square, 6425 Detroit Avenue,
Cleveland, OH 44102

COST: $185 for Members of The Lit; $225 for Nonmembers (10% discount
for former Chagrin Valley Writers' Workshop students)

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Using Scott Lax’s FTS Writing Method, students
are encouraged and coached to Find their story; to Translate the story
into written words; and finally to Shape their story into a
potentially publishable work of nonfiction or fiction. An important
aspect is that Scott helps students think like writers. Over the
course of the workshop, Scott will cover dialogue, plot, creating
believable characters, setting, narrative flow, self-editing and the
various aspects of writing that are common to both effective fiction
and literary nonfiction.

LIMIT: 10 students (Hurry! This class is filling up quickly)
