"Forever Plaid" brings harmony to Chagrin Valley Little Theatre
CHAGRIN FALLS, OH - Few shows have the longevity and popular appeal of
/Forever Plaid/. Originally mounted off-Broadway in 1990, the show has
since been performed internationally and even produced as a film in
2009. It's the story of The Plaids, a fictional quartet of high-school
buddies who sang 1950s male harmony in the vein of 'The Four Freshmen'
and 'The Four Aces'. One evening in 1964, as they were on their way to
their first 'big performance' at a local hotel, their Mercury sedan was
struck by a bus-load of school girls who were on their way to see The
Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. The vocal quartet's lives and musical
careers were put to a swift and ironically metaphorical end. As the play
begins, the boys find themselves returned to earth from heaven on
temporary leave so that they may do the performance they never got to do
in life.
With a light-hearted script by Stuart Ross and musical arrangements by
James Raitt, /Forever Plaid/ is a veritable juke-box of iconic 1950s pop
harmony, with songs like "Three Coins in the Fountain", "No, Not Much",
"Heart and Soul" and "Love is a Many-Splendored Thing".
Chagrin Valley Little Theatre's production, directed and choreographed
by Pamela LaForce with music provided by conductor/accompanist David
Markle, features Chad Duwe as "Jinx" (the nervous tenor), Trey Gilpin as
"Sparky" (the goofball baritone), Brandon Hood as "Frankie" (the
spirited leader), and Steven R. Tiderman as "Smudge" (the meek but
earnest bass).
/Forever Plaid // /plays at 8 PM, Fridays and Saturdays from April 16 -
May 8, 2010, 2010. Tickets are $18, or $14 for students and seniors.
Also coming soon, CVLT's adjacent River Street Playhouse presents David
Mamet's /A Life In The Theatre/ under the direction of Don Bernardo,
starring Brian Diehl and John Bruce with Amy Pelleg, opening on May 7.
For tickets to all Chagrin Valley Little Theatre productions and events,
call 440-247-8955 (Mon-Sat, 1-6 PM) or visit www.CVLT.org for online
