Open Mic Session and a Featured Reading

The Dark Room is a place where the writers take center stage and their work has a chance to grow. The Dark Room is a co-production of CPT and The Cleveland Theatre Collective and is an ongoing event held on the second Tuesday of each month.

This month only, The Dark Room will NOT be held in the Church at CPT. It will take place in the small rehearsal room located one door east of the CPT box office. Please look for the signs!

This month: Open Mic and a Featured Reading!

7:15pm: Writers can bring up to 10 pages of work to be read
7:30pm: Open Mic Session readings begin followed by Descent of a Diva by Deborah Magid

And don't forget - FREE Magic Hat Beer!

ABOUT DESCENT OF A DIVA: What happens when an opera diva identifies too strongly with her signature aria? The Doll Song from Offenbach's "Tales of Hoffmann" is the portal to the diva Lillian Strang's history, and the sole performer melds and morphs into Lillian and her family, colleagues, and past selves in mid-20'-century and fin-de-siécle Vienna. Music, movement, and multimedia add nuance to a harrowing tale inspired by Offenbach's opera and E.T.A. Hoffmann's short story, "The Sand Man." Written by Deborah Magid, Music/Lyrics by Offenbach/Barbier.

The Dark Room is a co-production of CPT and The Cleveland Theatre Collective and affords emerging and veteran playwrights the space and resources to develop new works. It offers a venue to workshop plays, novels, poems, or any other written work in a supportive, yet critical environment.

If you are interested in being a featured writer at a future Dark Room, please send a 20-30 page script along with a short bio, cast requirements, descriptions of the characters and a synopsis of the piece. Writers wishing to present during the open session portion of Dark Room may submit shorter works, up to ten pages, in advance of the event or bring them on the night of the event. All submissions should be made to Mindy Herman at mherman at cptonline.org.
