(Akron, OH)— The University of Akron School of Dance, Theatre,
and Arts Administration is offering *50 FREE TICKETS* to the first callers
for the remaining performances of Jim Leonard, Jr.’s *The Diviners*, a
timely and poignantly humorous play about a Midwest farm town’s struggles
during the Great Depression of the 1930s. UA faculty member Stephen Skiles
directs the play, which concludes its run April 15, 16, 17 at Paul A. Daum
Theatre in Kolbe Hall on the University of Akron campus.

“The Diviners is about a search. Everyone in this play is
searching for something divine, whether in themselves or someone else, that
can help them in a difficult economic time,” said Skiles, who directs this
American College Theatre Festival-winning play. “It’s a good look at
ourselves through the lens of a similar period of time.”

*The Diviners* is the story of Buddy Layman, a young man with a fear of
water but a talent for divining it and the unlikely—and ultimately
life-changing—friendship he develops with C.C. Showers, a disenchanted
former preacher searching for his identity.

The play, set in the American heartland during the Great Depression,
resonates in 2010, when the nation is battling a 10 percent unemployment
rate and economic distress. Leonard’s *The Diviners*, could be described as
a companion piece to Steinbeck’s American classic, *The Grapes of Wrath*,
and gives a glimpse at the tribulations of the people who stayed behind
while the Joads headed west.
