Seventh Annual International Folk Festival at
Lakeland Community College this Saturday, April 24
2 to 5 p.m.
Rt. 306 and I-90 (Exit 193)

$5 per adult, $2 per child an seniors
 
Explore and learn about the customs, traditions, and rich diversity of cultures in Northeast Ohio. Special event emcee will be Ray Somich of 1330 AM WELW.
 
Lakeland’s International Student Club is guided by faculty advisors Dr. Hyojin Jeong, a native of South Korea and assistant professor of economics, and Instructor of Mathematics Ivana Gorgievska, a native of Macedonia. 
 
The afternoon will feature ethnic music and dance performances as well as a variety of ethnic pastries and snacks from Italy, Greece, India, and Slovenia. Come early for best selection.
 
Schedule of Musical Events:
 
Africa
African Dancing and Singing – Featuring the Southern Enterprise School of the Arts.
 
Armenia 
Armenian singing with dance - Ruzanna Tovmasyan, 18 years old, in her second semester studying social work at Lakeland. She is the 7th of 10 children in a Christian-Armenian family.
 
Cuba
Sheene King performs Afro-Cuban dance.
 
Germany
German Singing group from the Donauschwaben Club of Cleveland
 
India
Pooja Kumar is a dedicated teacher of bharathanatyam to aspiring students in Cleveland. Also: Punjabi Folkdance with Rajat and Bharat Chadda
 
Japan
Sho-Jo-Ji 1800s Classical Dance – Youth group members include Nisei, Sansei and Yonsei, second, third, and fourth generations. 
 
Mexico
Mariachis "Conjunto Riqueno Trio" from Youngstown
 
Scotland
Christopher Olup performs on the bagpipe. He is the Pipe Sergeant with the Pipes and Drum Corps of the Cleveland Police Department and is a member of the Willowick Police Department.
 
The International Folk Festival is sponsored by the Center for Slovenian Studies at Cleveland State University, Lakeland Community College Diversity Committee, WELW, and the Lakeland Community College Center for International Education.
