The Kenston High School Destination Imagination Team advanced through the regional competition in Barberton, the state competition in Mt. Vernon, and now will be representing Ohio at the Global Finals in Knoxville, Tenn on May 26th through 29th.  Thirty countries will be represented at this event which will be attended by over 16,000 people.

Congratulations to high school students John Kolibab, Brigitte Kolibab, Maggie Woodworth, Madeleine O’Brien, Katherine Hoffman and their coach Julia Kolibab.

Destination Imagination is an organization that encourages students from the elementary  through the college level to use team work, performing and technical skills, and thinking outside the box as they use creativity to solve the challenges presented.  Each year students choose one out of 5 challenges that they wish to tackle and then spend months preparing for the competitions.

The Kenston team chose the improv challenge.  To prepare they were required to research 10 items in danger of extinction, and 10 stock characters.  At the competition they randomly chose one of each and had 7 minutes to prepare a 5 minute skit, incorporating their research, their stock character, their value judgment about saving the item, and were required to include several “human made props and scenery”.  During the performance they were also surprised with a super power that they had to immediately incorporate into the scene.  The elements they chose were the “pitcher plant”, a “show off” character, and their super power was “one of their toes glows to warn of danger”.

The Kenston Schools are very proud of their team. This is the first time in 10 years that a team from Kenston has advanced to the global competition.

The team will be fund raising to help with the considerable expense of attending the global event.  If anyone is interested in making a donation, please respond to this email for more information, or send a tax deductible contribution to Kenston Destination Imagination,
