*DADDY ALLEN: THE EASTER SEALS STORY *
Join TrueNorth Cultural Arts and Lorain County Metro Parks as we celebrate
the amazing story of Easter Seals with the play *Daddy Allen: The Easter
Seals Story *at French Creek Nature Center April 29 through May 16. Easter
Seals was started in 1919 in Elyria, Ohio by Edgar Allen. Allen was
instrumental in founding the Elyria Memorial Hospital after a terrible
streetcar accident took the life of his son, Homer. Allen later found that
children with disabilities were kept from public view. Saddened by this
discovery, Allen founded the National Society for Crippled Children in 1919.
This organization would later be named Easter Seals after fundraising
campaigns of Easter “seals” for donors to show their support on letters and
envelopes.
