ASIAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY LAUNCHES 

FIRST ANNUAL CLEVELAND ASIAN FESTIVAL

 

More than 5,000 Northeast Ohio residents are expected to turn out on May 22,
2010 for the first annual Cleveland Asian Festival in a collaborative effort
between The City of Cleveland, and the area's Asian community organizations,
according to Vi Huynh, President of MotivAsians, and Johnny Wu, President of
Organization of Chinese Americans of Greater Cleveland.  The festival is
taking place during Asian Heritage Month, with Mayor Frank Jackson giving
the opening speech. Ward 8 Councilman Jeffrey Johnson will also be in
attendance. 

 

            WHO:              A diverse array of Asian vendors, artists,
performers, health care professionals and visitors 

 

            WHAT:           Cleveland Asian Festival 

 

            WHERE:         Payne Avenue, between East 27th and East 30th
streets, and Asia Plaza's main parking lots. This is the heart of AsiaTown,
the business district that is home to                           numerous
Asian merchants. 

            

            WHEN:           Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 11:00 AM through
8:00 PM  

*	Dragon Dance and Lion Dance 12:30 pm
*	Inflatable Sumo Wrestling (all day - see Johnny Wu vs Vi Huynh)
*	Egg Roll Eating Contest 5:30pm
*	Japanese Taiko drummers 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm
*	Traditional Indian Bridal apparel fashion show 4:00 pm            
*	50+ exhibitors and 2 stages of performances (including Ray Szuch's 1
hr workshop on basic martial arts movements for movies. (complete
performance schedule and program guide is now online)
*	Meet local Asian Celebrities including author Margaret Wong, pianist
Tatsuya Nagashima, anchorwoman Lynna Lai, TV Personality Ratanjit Sondhe,
Lake County Captians Chun-Hsiu Chen and others.                             

 

About Cleveland Asian Festival

The festival aims to introduce AsiaTown's stores and restaurants to
thousands of new people throughout Cuyahoga County. In addition, a health
fair will target Asian Americans and address the medical conditions that
afflict them most.  Asian Americans make up 2.3 percent of Cuyahoga County's
residents, and they range from Asian Indians, Chinese, Filipino, Korean,
