through the 23rd. The show, an intimate evening with Emily Dickinson, was
written by William Luce. The play will be performed Thursday, Friday, &
Saturday at 8:00 PM and Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM. The theater is located
in downtown Hudson.
This production is a bonus for season subscribers who received free tickets
with their subscription.
*About the Play*
*The Belle of Amherst,* written and first performed by Julie Harris, is a
whimsical one-woman show based on the life of Emily Dickinson. The play
gives a voice to one of America's greatest and most enigmatic poets. Drawn
from Emily's poetry and letters, *The Belle of Amherst* is a living
autobiography of a true nonconformist. The play gives Emily the chance,
using a stream of conscious flow of poetry and musings, to introduce herself
to a new generation of readers. From her recipe for fruit cake to the
process by which her poems were published, Emily shares her personal life
and her career as a woman of letters.
*The Cast*
* *
Performing Emily is *MaryJo Alexander*, Co-artistic director of Actors’
Summit.
*The Belle of Amherst* is the third time MaryJo has performed solo. She

Orleans where she was a member of the Resident Acting Company. Locally, she
has performed at Actors’ Summit, Ensemble Theatre, Porthouse, Cain Park, and
Stan Hywet Shakespeare.
