The Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theatre will hold a Summer Series of Classes, Monday - Friday, June 21 -
June 25 for area students in grades 1 - 12.
 
Children in grades 1 - 3 may attend "The What If Story Trunk," a class in which different costume pieces, props, musical instruments and other interesting objects will be found in a trunk each day. Students will use the trunk's contents as inspirations to create and act out stories that may take them on imaginative trips back in time or far into the future. Creative drama,theatre games,  movement and cooperation with others will be stressed.. Class time is 10 - 11 a.m. In addition, students in this age group can enroll in "Off to Oz!" in which the class will be introduced to basic acting skills and characterization by traveling the Yellow Brick Road with Dorothy and her friends,and creating their own characters who will have new adventures in the Emerald City. Team work and story building skills are emphasized. Class time is 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Instructor for both classes is Monica Beasley-Martin.
 
Instructor Candace DiLullo will work with middle school students in grades 4-6. "Superheroes and Superheroines - Iron Man and the Avengers!" will have the class creating their own superhero characters (complete with cape!) and then plotting and performing a tale about fighting the foe that no single superhero can withstand. - the evil, mysterious and world threatening "Toxic Man." Avengers Assemble! Students will learn to plot a story as they acquire stage skills, vocal projection, characterization and body control. Class time is 10 - 11 a.m. DiLullo will also lead a class which will explore the world of web site making - "iCarly, You tube...and YOU!" Students will work as a group to script, design and perform their own web site show, which will then be posted on You Tube. Become your own Carly, Freddie or Sam and share your adventures with family and friends. Class time is 11 a.m.-12 noon.

Beginning actors in grades 7-12 may enroll in "Acting 101," conducted by Instructor, John Pecano. Class work covers auditioning, improvisation, characterization and monologues. Class time is 10 -11 a.m. "Advanced Acting," also taught by Pecano, will have students working on script analysis, duet acting and scene study as they explore the process of producing a stage play. This class will also be introduced to the important roles of lighting and sound design in a theatrical production. Class time is 11 a.m.-12 noon.
