Northern Classical Ballet is offering a Ballet Intensive for students
wishing to further their Ballet education.  Students will attend 4-5
technique classes in Ballet, Pointe (if applicable), Variations, Modern, and
Character.  Our guest faculty includes Master Teachers: Kelli Sanford
(Modern), Desmond Davis(Modern), Claire Brown(Ballet/Pointe/Variations), and
Elizabeth Matias(Ballet/Pointe).

Northern Classical Ballet Summer Ballet Intensive begins Monday June
21stand concludes with an informal performance on Friday June 25
th.  Times are 9:30am until 4:00pm Monday thru Friday.  The intensive is
open to ages 8 and up with at least one year of ballet training.

*Modern Instructors*



*DESMOND L. DAVIS* is a proud native of Cleveland, Ohio, a graduate of
Kenyon College with a degree in Dance and Drama, a founding company member
of Cleveland Contemporary Dance Theatre (CCDT), a professional dancer,
choreographer and educator who enjoys exchanging and teaching movement,
theater and dance ideas with students of all ages in various school systems
throughout Northeast Ohio, dance studios and recreational projects.

 During his nine seasons with CCDT, Desmond has performed the works of
Executive/Artistic director, Michael Medcalf, Dianne McIntyre, Shapiro &
Smith, Peter Kalivas (PGK Project), David Rousseve on Playhouse Square,
Cleveland Public Theatre, Tri-C and Cain Park stages, appeared with Dancing
Wheels, SAFMOD Performance Ensemble, Antaeus Dance and Mather Dance
Collective (MaDaCol) as well as directed, produced and choreographed shows
for CCDT’s Youth Ensemble, Karamu House and Morrison Playmakers, Inc. in
Barberton Community among others.

“Mr. Desmond”, as he is best known to his students, has been teaching
contemporary modern dance, jazz, ballet and creative movement for pre-school
to adult through his work with CCDT’s CONSORT! Youth Dance Ensemble, Lisa
Wihelm Academy of Dance, Lauray’s Studio of Dance and as an independent
teaching artist with Karamu House,Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio since
January of 2008 and just this past year as an Outreach Educator for Verb
Ballets at Hiram College.
Although he is “serious” about dance Mr. Desmond is equally committed to
making dance accessible to all: “We move every day in every way.  Dance is
the ART of movement.”

Mr. Desmond would like to thank his artist partners and parents for allowing
him to share his joy of movement and entrusting him to nurture the creative
within their children.



*KELLI SANFORD *holds a Master of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance from Case
Western Reserve University and a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from The
University of Akron. Ms. Sanford currently dances professionally with *Tikvah
Company of Artists *and is a featured soloist in the production SEVEN which
has been performed in Cleveland, Chicago, and Philadelphia. Tikvah is a
multi-artistic company based in Chicago under the artistic direction of Lin
Kahn. Ms. Sanford is a Part-Time Assistant Lecturer in Dance at The
University of Akron where she teaches ballet and modern, and also a
Part-Time Lecturer in Dance at Case Western Reserve University where she
teaches Graham-based modern. At CWRU Ms. Sanford received numerous awards in
excellence in teaching, performing, theatrical elements, and a prestigious
Pancoast award that enabled her to travel to Australia to study the
Aboriginal Culture and Dance. Most recently she was nominated in the
undergraduate student body for “Excellence in Mentoring” and also“*Most
Engaging Lecturer* *Award”*. Kelli has performed with *Opera
Cleveland*, *Louder
Than Words Dance Company *and has had her choreography featured at the
*Northeast
Ohio Dance Festival *and *Ohio Young* *Artists Dance Festival *in 2002. This
summer for the second year in a row Ms. Sanford was selected as the *Lead
Artist in* *Dance *for the city of Akron’s *Summer Arts Experience *program.
Her choreography from this program will be featured again in the *Heinz Poll
Summer Dance Festival *at Goodyear Heights Park in Aug. 2010. Kelli was the
Dance Instructor of *Ohio Ballet’s Turned Out Tikes Children’s’ Program *for
five years, and she has taught at many NEO Dance schools including UA’s
Dance Institute, Great Lakes Youth Ballet, Ballet Western Reserve, Richland
Academy of the Arts, Cleveland City Dance, Medina Center for Dance Art and
Spotlight School of the Arts. Ms. Sanford attended the Martha Graham School
of Contemporary Dance Summer Intensive on a two-week scholarship, and has
studied with former artists and principal dancers of the MGDC such as Diane
Gray, Gary Galbraith, Joyce Herring, Pascal Rioult, and Tom Smith. Kelli
specializes in Graham-based Modern and teaches ballet, tap, and jazz. She is
a sought-after instructor and a passionate and versatile performer.



*Ballet Instructors*

*CLAIRE BROWN *danced nine years as classical ballet soloist with The
Festival Ballet Providence in Rhode Island. Her favorite roles included:
Lilac Fairy, Snow Queen, Grisi of Pas de Quatre, Four Swans from Swan Lake,
and more. Early in her career, Claire was chosen to complete summer studies
with professional schools such as: Pennsylvania Ballet, Cleveland Ballet,
and two years at The School of American Ballet in New York City.  She grew
up in Wadsworth dancing with The Northeast Ohio Dance Ensemble and attained
an apprenticeship with Ohio Ballet while attending high school. Claire's
professional experience led her to over fifteen years of classical ballet
instruction in professional and recreational dance schools in Ohio and the
New England areas. She currently holds a Bachelor's degree in Education and
a Master's in Instructional Technology. Claire has six years of experience
as a classroom teacher and two years of experience as a Library Media
Specialist.


*LIZ MATIAS *was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She trained with
Margaret Holden, the University of Akron's Dance Institute, and on
scholarship with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and Jennifer Muller/The Works.
She then moved to New York to pursue her dance career and a degree. She
graduated magna cum laude from Marymount Manhattan College where she was
granted the opportunity to perform works by Martha Graham and Donald Byrd.

Liz is a choreographer, performer, and teaching artist. Her choreography has
been presented at various venues, festivals and benefits throughout New
York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Previously, she worked with Rebecca Davis
at Dance Theatre Workshop, The Next Stage Project, Jared Grime's *Broadway
Underground*, the off-Broadway show *Drumadics*, David Blaine at Lincoln
Center, and Cleveland Contemporary Dance Theatre.
