DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE by Sarah Ruhl

 

Date:  Tue 6/22 and Wed 6/23

 

Time:  7:00pm - 10:00pm (by appointment)*

 

Callbacks:  Week of July 5 (exact date to be scheduled)

 

Place:  Dobama Theatre, 2340 Lee Road, Cleveland Hts. (across from the CH/UH
Library)

 

Director:  Scott Miller

 

Production: Jean is sleepwalking through her life until she answers a dead
man's cell phone. It turns out to be a wake-up call that sends her on a date
with the dead man's brother, a drinking binge with his wife, and a
mysterious rendezvous with his mistress.  A captivating new play from the
award-winning Sarah Ruhl, DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE traces one woman's
accidental quest to make a few people feel just a little bit better about
themselves. 

 

Characters:  

 

Jean:  39, though could look younger.  Loving.  Terrific listener. 

Seemingly transparent.  Tender.  Terrific liar.

 

Other Woman:  30-35.  Unabashed.  Vain.  Can be vulnerable.  Hates 

sentimentality but is sentimental.   Sophisticated.  Direct.  Sardonic.

 

Mrs. Gottlieb:  50-60.  Superior.  Can be brash and cruel, can be 

exceedingly well mannered.  Outspoken.  Vulnerable.

 

Dwight:  Mid-30's.  Sensitive.  Laconic.  Bashful.   Gentle, even fragile. 

Forlorn.  Persistent.

 

Hermia:  mid- to late 30's, possibly older.  Secretive.  Cool.  Emotionally 

injured.  Can be crass and uninhibited.  Needy.

 

 

Production dates:  October  29 - November  21, 2010
