Much Ado About Nothing this weekend on the St. Helena III and the Towpath
The Canal Fulton Players at the UMC Family Theatre proudly announce that
they will be presenting William Shakespeare’s wonderful comedy, Much Ado
About Nothing, on August 28-29, 2010. The main difference between this
production and other productions that the Players have presented over the past
five years is that the play will be presented on the St. Helena III canal
boat and the canal towpath between the Canalways Pavilion and Lock IV in the
Canal Fulton Parks system. The play, according to research, is the first
one that has been presented on a canal boat since approximately the 1850s.
Director and Producer David Van Gaasbeek has devised a way that will keep
everyone in the audience on the edge of their seat as this plays unfolds.
Seven actors will act on the boat while the remainder of the cast will
present their lines from the canal towpath as the boat ventures majestically
down the canal. Playing the two rambunctious pairs of lovers are Anita
Artzner (Beatrice), Jamie Edwards (Benedick), Christine Gingerich (Hero) and
Bryan Steffee (Claudio). The Prince, Don Pedro, is played by Jason Reagon,
while Leonato, Hero’s rather strung out father and owner of the villa where
this all takes place, is Gary Gallagher. Leonato’s sister, Antonia, is
played by Cindy Bagocious. The evil half brother to Don Pedro, Don John, is
played by Josh Rowe and his henchmen, Borachio and Conrad, are played by
Tyler Brewer and Jarod Hare. Hero’s faithful handmaiden is played by Sarah
Price while her vampy scullery maid is played by Stacey Pasternak.
Meanwhile, the rather incompetent police force, which somehow manages to save the
day, is led by Lisa Van Gaasbeek (Dogberry). Her constables at arms are
Jack Yoak (Verges), Heidi Knight (Seacole) and Jon Neumann (the Watch). The
Friar, who has the plan to thwart Don John and his henchman, is played by
Ray Olivera. Rounding out the cast is Drew Hutchinson, who plays the
Steward. The play has a surprise ending.
Much Ado About Nothing is a raucous comedy in which the love lives of
Beatrice and Benedick and Hero and Claudio meet several highs and lows.
Through the devious machinations of Don Pedro to bring them all together, these
four people ultimately find true love despite the rather strange bumps in
the road.
The play will be presented at 4:00 and 6:30 pm on both dates. The cost
of the ride and the play is $17.00. Reservations are highly recommended as
the seating per trip is limited to thirty five people. Reservations can be
made by calling Mary Higgins at the Canalways Pavilion at 330-854-6835.

including Best Actress (Katherine Hepburn). The play will be presented in the
Fellowship Hall Theatre at the United Methodist Church of Canal Fulton,
363 West Cherry Street, Canal Fulton, Ohio. The director is David Van
Gaasbeek.
