"Drinking Habits"

 The season opens with a hilarious farce, "Drinking Habits" by Tom Smith and
directed by Clay Nielsen.  A delightful comedy, the production tells the
story of two Sisters from the just-barely-making-it convent of The Sisters
of Perpetual Sewing which soon goes into a frenzy because a frost is
expected, threatening the convent's treasured juice grapes. But the nuns
know something nobody else does. The grapes they harvest are used not only
to make grape juice, but to make wine - something they are forbidden to make
by Mother Superior.  The nuns only make the wine so the profits can keep the
small convent afloat. But when their wine wins a one million dollar prize,
the situation gets very complicated!

John Steinbeck's captivating tale of the unique friendship between two
traveling workers, George and Lennie, and their quest for the American dream
is brought to life in Steinbeck's classic drama "Of Mice and Men." This
timeless American masterpiece illuminates the power of a dream and its
ability to connect people and provide hope for a brighter future. But as all
too often happens, "the best laid schemes o' mice and men" go awry in this
powerful production directed by Joe Petrolia.

But January sees the return of talented local actors in the hit show
"Hairspray the Broadway Musical."  Directed by Kim Godfrey, the show is set
in the year is 1962 and Baltimore's Tracy Turnblad is going to do whatever
it takes to dance her way onto TV's most popular show! Can a big girl with
big dreams, and even bigger hair, turn the whole town around and still have
time to win the boy she loves? You won't want to miss this dancing,
romancing musical-comedy treat based on John Waters' 1988 film classic, with
a book by Mark O'Donnell and two-time Tony Award-winner Thomas Meehan and a
brand-new score by five-time Oscar-nominee Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.


"Proof"

Directed by Douglas Anderson, is the winner of the 2001 Pulitzer and Tony
awards, "Proof," which was also made into the 2005 movie of the same name
which starred Gwyneth Paltrow and Anthony Hopkins. This engaging drama by
David Auburn, tells a complex tale centered on a young woman, Catherine, who
has spent several years caring for her father, an intellectually brilliant
mathematician. Unfortunately, her father was also insane. The play is set in
the days immediately following his death and includes flashbacks -- or maybe
they're just in Catherine's mind? And that is her biggest fear--how much
does she take after her brilliant but deranged parent?

The final show of the season, the Tony Award winning "The 25th Annual Putnam
County Spelling Bee," is a hilarious musical comedy telling the tale of six
over-achievers in the throes of puberty, vying for the spelling bee
championship of a lifetime as they are overseen by grown-ups who barely
managed to escape childhood themselves!  As the stage is filled with fun and
hilarity, the six learn the valuable lesson that winning isn't everything
and losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser.  Before every performance,
audience volunteers are recruited to participate as guest spellers
guaranteeing a new show each night with fun and unexpected results!  With
book by Rachel Sheinkin and Music & Lyrics by William Finn, this show will
be directed by Stephen Rhodes.

G.B. Community Theatre will once again offer our popular dinners prior to
select performances. Reservations and prepayment are required no later than
noon on the Wednesday prior to the event.  However, dinner seats often sell
out before the deadline and reservations should be made as early as
possible.  Dinner seating begins at 6:30 p.m.  Cost is $16 plus the price of
