Starting on September 9th, Arcanum Productions, an Ohio based film
production company, launched a project on
Kickstarter.com<http://kck.st/afhSGh%20>:
a unique fundraising website that is successful because artists inspire
people to give by offering tangible rewards. For example, if someone pledges
$30.00 to help make "AMERIKA: a notebook in three parts" - a film to be shot
in Northeast Ohio - they will get a 5x7 signed promotional photo, an 11x17
signed poster, and their name listed on the "Supporters" section of
AMERIKA's website. Pledges start at one dollar. In the event that the
production doesn't achieve its goal, which is to raise $20,000.00 in 70
days, then no money changes hands; meaning it's an all-or-nothing funding
method. If the fundraising is successful, those funds will be used to buy
equipment and begin shooting in Lorain County and the greater Cleveland area
this fall.

Productions Launches AMERIKA Multimedia Campaign
*NEW YORK, N.Y. -- August 9, 2010 -- Arcanum Productions* is proud to
announce the launch of a groundbreaking multi-platform
blog<http://amerika.arcanumproductions.com/en/>that features two
preview trailers for "
*AMERIKA: a notebook in three parts*," an in-development feature film by
American director and writer *Mika Johnson*.

 <http://amerika.arcanumproductions.com/en/>
Available in *English with Arabic, Chinese and Japanese subtitles*, the
preview trailers -- the result of an intensive eight-month collaboration
with *Oberlin College* in Oberlin, Ohio -- are the cinematic centerpiece of
a groundbreaking multi-platform social awareness and activist online
initiative.

Representing about a third of the cast and story, the preview trailers give
visitors a tantalizing glimpse into the film's unique message and aesthetic.
The collaboration with Oberlin College included the participation of both
students and staff, along with contributions of equipment, props, costumes
and space from both the school and members of the local community. The
filmmakers also adopted a variety of *green production techniques* in order
to reduce their impact on the environment and provide other filmmakers with
innovative and sustainable eco-friendly filmmaking solutions.

In addition to presenting the preview trailers, the AMERIKA blog aims to
develop the on-going discourse surrounding key themes in the film: *anti-Arab
discrimination, Native American language preservation* and *water
privatization*. To help educate the public about these issues, spark
dialogue and ultimately inspire action, the blog features expert essays, a
Twitter feed, links to petitions and opportunities to support related
non-profit organizations.

Essays have been provided by *Reynard Loki*, a New York-based writer and
environmental activist who writes about the issue of water privatization,
and *Tariq Elseewi*, a doctoral candidate in Arabic language media at the
University of Texas in Austin, who writes about Arab portrayals in American
film and television.

The AMERIKA blog also has a dedicated experimental *Twitter* feed featuring
a dialogue of voices culled from America's past and present, with quotes
from leading *Navajo, Cherokee, Seneca, Sioux, Nez Perce* and other Native
Americans alongside quotes from such famous Americans as *Daniel Boone,
George W. Bush, George Washington* and *Donald Trump*.
*ABOUT "AMERIKA: a notebook in three parts"

*
Shot in a surrealist style using flashbacks, dreams and existential humor,
"AMERIKA" emphasizes unique documentary/fiction performances to question
traditional and contemporary views of America's history and cultural
identity. It tells the story of Kat, a young Japanese woman who travels
across the country in search of her long-lost father, soon finding herself
at the crossroads of a nation's spiritual destiny.

*ABOUT ARCANUM PRODUCTIONS*
Arcanum Productions is a New York-based film production company that
re-imagines independent cinema by developing films for Web-based
distribution, and is committed to green filmmaking, education, social
awareness and a collaborative, community-based ethos. Arcanum is currently
seeking production partners and funding for "AMERIKA."

Select graduates from Oberlin College will continue to work on the
production while current students will be invited to volunteer or contribute
in a variety of roles. Taking advantage of Ohio's new Film Tax Credit
incentives, Arcanum has developed a cost-effective budget to produce AMERIKA
in the state's northeast region. The Art Deco and Gothic architecture of the
area's storied mansions, ballrooms and train depots will provide the perfect
setting to tell the powerful story of "AMERIKA."
